edit. i hope you don't mind that i edited a conclusion on this and archived it.

Roarke struggled, teeth scraping into flesh as Hemlock lifts her head slightly and elevates the rabbit. Panic floods him for a moment as he feels his grip upon the hare slipping. He is not overly hungry and he does not think he could eat it all by himself — and he thinks that if he wins it he will share it with Hemlock (for he is unaware that Lotte lingers behind him) — but he does not want to lose. He does not want to feel the smart of humiliation beneath his breast and burn in his cheeks (despite that they are covered by fur and none would be the wiser). Losing is all apart of the natural learning process but to Roarke it might as well be the end of the world. He takes a step forward to realign his grasp upon the hare seconds before Hemlock gave her own head a shrug. A series of low growls tore from his throat and he digs his front paws into the earth and tugs with all his might and tumbles back as the rabbit is freed as Hemlock allows him to win. “Oof!” The breath is knocked out of him momentarily and he drops the rabbit to scramble back to his paws. He looks from the prize (given to him but he does not know that), eyes bright with excitement from the game of tug-o-war. “Share it?” Roarke acknowledges her as a formable warrior now and to the young Fearghal this should not go unrewarded. He nudges it towards her intent on sharing the prize with her if she wants it, remaining oblivious to Lotte's watchful gaze.

Regardless of Hemlock's answer or Lotte's intervention (or lackthereof) he eats his share and lets the other half for her before bounding off quickly with a spring in his step in search of a sibling to wrestle with.
