The sound of the voice Lily most wanted to hear lifted her spirits, slightly, and she looked down at Vilkas, smiling. She gave him a shake of her head in response, hoping that he could see the gesture, though her dark fur blended too well against the black of night. She gestured further for him to join her on the rock, shifting over to give him more room and waiting for him to arrive.

In all her nightmares, there was one common thread--Vilkas. He and the unknown woman had saved her, had rescued her from the brink of death. She was already fond of him, but now, she owed him her life. What could she ever to do repay him? Her esteem for the man had grown tenfold, and he had become her protector, her savior, her friend.

Perhaps, with time, even more.
