Can't touch this - Bhageera - January 14, 2019

for @Nunataq. Its the point of the river just outside the hollow a bit. Sorry for the awful phone post

For the first time in a few days the sun shone down and she could actually feel it warming her fur through the cold. It made her feel lively, less cranky than normal too. She wandered the riverside a ways before she spotted a distant rising of trees, the breeze from it blowing the scent of wolves toward her. She wouldn't go any further, no need to risk ruining a good day. So she flopped onto her side next to the water and bathed in the sunlight, a content purr rumbling the air.

The kitty would not get to sleep for long, because another hunter was on prowl. Riverside shared the top 1 place in the world with Arlette's pasture of giant, furry cows, therefore, if Nuna was not hanging out at her friends or stalking adults along the borders, or conducting top-secret classified experiments for the Pepper Gang, then she was by the river. Sniffing out the banks in hopes to find a fish.

And she did find a fish. A big, furry, warm, feline-looking and quite smaller than she recalled the cougar to be. Soundly asleep. Nunataq stopped in her tracks, measure the animal with her gaze, comparing her size and proportions with the cat's, deciding that she could risk to approach and inspect the animal up close and did exactly so. Within 2 meter radius, walking around it in a circle and sniffing the air, not yet brave enough to venture closer.

Ahhh...the sun. It filled with a heavy, warm peacefulness. It also made her extremely sleepy. So a few moments before Nunataq showed up she had dozed off with her head resting on the ground. She didn't immediately wake up when the young girl circled her either but lay there with her paws and whiskers twitching. It was only after the girl began to sniff at her did her eyes sleepily blink open and she stared at the wolf who wasn't close enough to make her immediately go into a defensive stance.

Bhageera closed one eye and used the other to study the other predator, wary at first but determining that she wasn't exactly in danger. The wolf didn't seem fully grown but wasn't a pup either. Lazily just to test things she rolled onto her back and aimed a slow and clumsy swat in her direction, giving the smallest meow she could. She wasn't in the mood to fight, she displayed that quite clearly.

Nunataq had been about to decrease the distance between her and the lynx, and had crouched down, stretched her neck as far as she could and sniffed curiously, her nose almost touching the animal's paw, when she froze, feeling the stealthy feline gaze upon her (to put it more clearly - it's the power of a gaze upon a person, who knows that he has been caught doing wrong) and a second later a paw swatted at her nose, making her scrabble backwards.

The thing was alive! And it talked!

She sat down and cocked her head to the side, eyeing the cat with a curious gaze, then lied down, to be in the same level with the animal. Her tail was swaying happily as she rested her head between her outstretched forepaws and barked a WRUFFF!, which implied - hello, who are you, you look odd. Talk about effective resource management in mute kids.

Her paw bonked harmlessly against the girl's snout and she slowly withdrew it as the wolf scrambled backwards, laying down though still remaining nearby. This made Bhageera open both her eyes and look at the young Beasty with a curious and wary expression, her ears perking and swiveling with hesitation. This was not normal. Fangs and pain and biting and angry words were normal. This was....nice...and cute. She sniffed at the girl curiously the bark making her ears shoot up as the sudden noise startled her though she supposed it hadn't been an unfriendly sound. She wondered how far this could go, if perhaps she could have some fun with this wolf without it being another horrible memory amongst her brain's massive storage of them. With this in mind she pushed her rear end up, her nubby tail flicking back and forth rapidly and she did that thing cats do, wiggling her but back and forth a few times before she pounced at the girl and as soon as she landed in front of her she sprang away again. Along with these playful movements she chirped and mrowed. M-r-r-r-r. Mrow! the sounds were high pitched and short, much different than the loud screams and angry yowls she normally made.

The cat did not reply, which was a good thing, because Nunataq would have not understood it anyway. But it did nothing of the usual canine greeting ritual - no muzzle sniffing, no "measuring", who was the coolest, no butt sniffs. Instead it did something quite unexpected - while the masked girl was watching the funny little tail like a flimsy flag atop the fluffy, sand-coloured rear end - the cat pounced and crashed inside Nuna's personal space like a brick in a window, scaring her and making her scramble backwards. Then, however, it changed it's tactic, and fled. Now, this was a game Nunataq understood and forgetting her earlier failure, she went after her playmate, eager to play the game of tag.

The interspecies play continued for a while longer, until the cat became tired and lost interest and shooed the over-eager pup away. Slightly disappointed, Nunataq obeyed and slinked off in the hollow.
