Tryna keep vague, set after this thread
Slower. She panted heavily as she weaved through the scarred sentinels. Her breath clouded before her as she picked her way through the remains. All life was decimated from the woods, first from fire then by the bone-chilling snow. Her ears pricked. The quietness seemed to radiate around her in pulsing waves. Her head hurt.
Looking around, she wondered if there was a stream nearby. Whatever, she snapped up some snow hidden in the shade and continued. She was feeling a bit better, her heart was slowing and her muscles didn't feel like they were on fire anymore. Her throat still hurt, as did her lungs. The female wasn't about to admit she was nearing the end of her prime. Aw hell no, she wouldn't admit it until she was beat and down...she was beat today. Hard. Shit...Flicker looked to the sky and wondered what her future would be. She wasn't old by any means, just slower. Perhaps she'd have to get out more.

A chill ran through her body as she moved through the fire-scorched forest. She usually tried to avoid this place since it was kind of eerie and always gave her the chills, but she ventured here today in search of herbs. She thought she might make a stop here just to see if anything had pushed through the barren earth stronger and more resilient.
She found nothing, though, and was about to begin her return trip to the mountains she now called home, but her attention was drawn to a stranger. She moved towards the cream and red female, noting that she smelled of pack. The scent was vaguely familiar, but she couldn't quite place it. She released a chuff when close enough before coming to a stop to ensure the other woman could leave if she didn't wish to have company.

The chuff startled her, pivoting to face the the stalker with her gaze ablaze, lips writhing up instinctively to warn off the other. Golden eyes were met with gold. The fire glazed woman took a step back, ears sleeking to the sides.
”What do you want?” her tone was accusing, yet the girl herself had done nothing; it was her pack. ”What are you, a tracker? A scout? A warrior?” the woman was becoming more erratic, her face contorting and torn between running and harming the other. Her pack was part of the intrusion, her pack had just tried to force information from her.
The woman lurched forwards, her legs unnaturally splaying in her half panic. The woman growled, threatening. Her tail curled and the autumn fur rose in her display.
”I did nothing!” she barked.
It was true, it was Llewellyn who first enroached on her land and she’d not hurt him bad. It was defence, and she had every right to attack the golden man. Now, she sought to wreak revenge on the smaller girl.
The woman again lept forwards, this time moving closer with a snap of her jaws.

She hadn't expected to be met with aggression. She had met many strangers while wandering around as a lone wolf, and none of them had ever reacted in such a way. Warning bells went off in her head, and she also took a step back, unsure what to do. The hostile words made her ears fall, and she shook her head.
But before she could answer, the other woman was lunging forward, and the empath took another step back. Speedy was confused by the way the other woman was acting; it was as if she had done something to her and--the reason the scent seemed familiar suddenly dawned on her. Oh shit, this was bad. She was no more warrior, just a healer who tried to stay out of such things if she could, but she had a feeling she had just put herself in grave danger here being stupid friendly Speedy.
The blackfeather wolf lunged again, and Speedy took another step back, ears falling again. The only thing she could think to do was try to diffuse the situation; she certainly wouldn't win in a fight, nor did she want to fight with the other wolf.

I'm not here to hurt you,she said in her soft, healer's voice. She was trying to calm and soothe; it was the only thing she could think to do.

It didn't make sense for the wolf to be following her. She had to be a spy, why else would the wolf from the same pack try to follow her home?
Another growl rumbled from her like thunder; a displeased storm with a wildfires heart.
"You displease me," she murmured, replicating the whispy but harsh tones of the shadowed man who protected her forest. "What is your pack?" she demanded, a harder tone made of oak. She needed to know, make sure she wasn't bringing the wrong person into a war that wasn't theirs.
Slowly, the woman tried to settle herself, even though she could guess where the brown and white girl came from. The mountain. A rasping voice crossed her mind, whispering sweet nothings in her ear -- but she made something from it.
you can be the queen of the mountain
A sly smirk started to spread her lips before she asked her next question, "What is your name, girl?"

Speedy watched her warily, the growl quickening her heart rate. She wanted to inform the strange wolf that she displeased her as well, but she thought her usual snark might not be the best way to handle this. Then the other woman asked what pack she was from. So she didn't know for sure? The healer saw this as an opportunity to walk away from the situation in one piece or at all really. Who knew what this woman was planning. All Speedy knew was that she had a really bad feeling about this whole thing, and she promised whatever higher powers existed that if she were allowed to get out of here, she would be more careful approaching strangers in the future.
She wanted to know her name. She should lie about that too, right? But what if something happened to her, and the only name they had to give anyone was the wrong one? Besides, she couldn't do much with her real name anyway; it's not like she knew all the members of Moonspear.
My pack is in the valley, she lied, lifting her head in the opposite direction of her actual pack. She knew lying might make this worse, but it could also save her ass.

My name is Speedy, she answered hesitantly, golden eyes watching the other wolf's every move.

The woman had been proven wrong by the stranger named Speedy. A curious, not so discrete sniff told her otherwise. Oh well, she had to appreciate the lying trade for it was to be her passion.
The woman breathed a heavy sigh, the fur smoothing along her back and the wild anger vanished from her eyes. Her whole form seemed to drop with the wearyness she carried. She dropped her gaze, giving both time to calm, before she again looked up, and started out with an apology.
”I’m sorry for the misunderstanding, I’m just...shaken by some recent events,” she left out being attacked on neutral land by a pack, ”I tend to be wary at times like this. My name’s Mor.” Good, the lie rolled easily from her lips and she felt no guilt, ensuring her face schooled neutrality.
Her tail wavered softly, trying to make ammends with Speedy. It couldn’t hurt to try and make friends, even after a rocky start, right?

She watched the other woman sniff the air, possibly to make sure she was telling the truth about what pack she came from. The healer had no idea if she bought her lie or not, but she proceeded to deflate some, and so she assumed she was somewhat in the clear for now.
She certainly didn't expect the apology that came next. Her wariness battled with her healer's heart when the strange woman stated that she was shaken by something that had happened recently. She took no step forward, still not sure if she could trust the other wolf--well, really she knew she shouldn't trust her at all, but she couldn't resist the urge to help, no matter who it was. Her ears lifted a little as concern filled her expression.
She noticed the slight movement of the other's tail, and she relaxed slightly, taking one tentative step towards the blackfeather wolf, still wary but also interested in talking a little more.

I'm sorry to hear that, she offered soothingly.

The situation might have been calm for the time being, but it wouldn't last. Revui had her scent; he was hungry for her blood in a way that would have made his grandfather proud, but perhaps frightened the rest of his family. He had been one of those beasts that intercepted the Blackfeather woman in the first place and now, desperate to prove he was a warrior and he was worthy of his place on the mountain, he was in hot pursuit.
He came thundering along Flicker's escape route without trying to hide his presence; there was almost no way the massive wolf could make himself stealthy, especially when he was gripped by this intense and feral aggression. He caught sight of two bodies together — and on first glance, Revui did not make a distinction between Flicker or Speedy, he saw them as two co-conspirators, two wolves of Blackfeather, which made the threat all that more palpable (and his triumph that much more praise-worthy once he routed them).
With a roar he descended upon the two wolves, barrelling towards them with as much ferocity as he had shown earlier upon first discovering the wayward Blackfeather woman. Except this time he had no backup, and he was snapping those alligator jaws indescriminately.

The woman's ears perked, and a slow smile made it's way to her face, comforted by the woman. She didn't mind the lie she'd told, but it helped settle her nerves, even just for the moment; to cast the illusion that she wasn't to harm her. The peace wasn't to last long.
Her suspicions were correct it seemed, for the gigantic, dark male came crashing along her exact path. Shit, she'd let him catch up. The woman took one look at him and realised that this warrior wanted her blood badly enough to battle any who stood in his way. And that person just happened to be poor Speedy. She'd seen the ravenous look in the eyes of foes enough to know what would come next.
Launching forwards, she met her follower with the flash of ivories and guttural snarl, a wild fury overcame her as it did in the war that befell her Warland. She rose up, hoping he'd do the same or at least slow so she could dive onto him from above. If not, she'd surely be knocked from her feet and forced to grapple with the beast.

It all happened so fast the Speedy wasn't even sure what exactly was happening at first. She heard the murderous sound from behind her, and cold, sickening fear shot through her chest. Had she been tricked into relaxing so someone could attack her from behind? She turned just in time to see her own packmate lunging at them. She might have been relieved, but she noticed too late that he was coming right for her. It was too late to react--he connected with the side of her neck, teeth sinking into her flesh.
Please stop. It's me. Its me,she cried out, tears forming in her eyes from pain and fear. There was no way she could fight him off. She didn't know how else to get him to let go except for trying to get through his rage-clouded mind. She struggled against his hold, desperately trying to break free without having to hurt him (as if she really could). Surely he would see his mistake soon and turn his rage on the other woman.

He didn't know he'd made a mistake. This was his first brawl with someone outside of the spars of his childhood, and the taste of the blood in his mouth was something he savored. It was like he was tearing the wolverine to pieces again; the doe was screaming in the back of his mind for a reprieve as he turned upon its fawn; he saw the golden coat of Llewellyn twisted and bloody on the ground. So many experiences that characterized his frenzy in the present. Except — then he heard the pleading voice, that pathetic bleating, saw the face of someone familiar on the other side of his teeth —
— the raspberry girl —
No, no, this wasn't right.
He tore his teeth from her flesh without thinking, taking a nice chunk of her with him, and didn't have time to react as the other wolf (the real danger) dove in to assault his face. Revui snarled and flashed his teeth at this new threat — pivoting and butting with his thick skull, thrusting himself towards Flicker while blood and spit drooled from his exposed teeth.
He roared again as he charged like a nordic warrior of old — slamming chest-first in to Flicker and snapping at her with a renewed vigor, ignorant of his own wounds (or furious enough to be numb to their effect for the time being). He was a beast, a leviathan brimming with rage and purpose, and he was going to destroy her.

Lmao my terrible dice roll failure, the first one with numbers is the code I copied from a different post because I somehow thought that would work. The second was the real roll uwu
He hit his own packmate as she dropped down onto empty air before he realised his mistake and turning to latch onto her shoulder. His grip was, however, weak and fumbling, allowing the woman to pull away with a sharp tug backward, but it still hurt. He reminded her of an impish creature, but with more size and power.
Kicking off from her retreat, she pushed forwards and locked her jaws onto him, aiming for his throat. They were almost evenly matched, his size and power just out-manipulated hers, but she had more experience, it seemed. She grappled her opponent, struggling for the upper hand and to inflict more pain on him; he deserved it.
He was slamming into her, chest against her shoulder. She snarled and fought to keep hold whilst trying to twist her body away from his contact.

Finally, she saw the recognition in is eyes, and he let go, taking a piece of her flesh with him. She was too relieved to register the large hole in her neck or how much it it hurt. She watched as Mor lunged for her packmate just as he turned to meet her, landing a fleeting bite to her shoulder.
Seconds passed as she watched them fight for the upper hand. She couldn't let him do this on his own; this was her fault, and she would never forgive herself if something happened to him. She rose to her feet, ignoring the throbbing in her neck, and threw herself at Mor's rear leg, hoping to connect and distract her enough for her partner to take advantage. She missed with her teeth, only managing to slam into the other woman's hind quarters, the force throwing Speedy back a little in response. It wasn't what she had planned, but maybe it would still have her intended outcome.

While his injured packmate tried (and failed) to help him, Revui was busy with the true danger: the Blackfeather wolf had quite the grip on him, and the longer he struggled against it the more prominent the pain became. Blood soaked in to his fur the more he moved; his drumming heart like the beating of a war drum, and soon the blood streaked through the snow. But he did not relent. Revui was larger and he knew how to use his size to his advantage. Even if he couldn't cause her harm because of her position he could force her to release him — and so he crowded up against her, teeth snapping and body contorting until he was (more or less) looming over her and pressing her in to the soil.
This sent an animal thrill through him -- something distinctly different from the aggression that plagued every inch of his body, a heat that he felt pulsing in his belly (and a little lower); lust was a foreign concept to the Ostrega but he was nearing the age where it would rear its ugly head. For now he assumed the flush of warmth was merely from the fight, and ignored it.
He finally had the upper hand — she was squarely pressed beneath him and he could easily begin to tear away at her flesh if he so wished, but pride rose in him as he concluded that he had won the moment — and Revui glowered down at her with a bloodied grin, as if to invite her feeble attempts to counter his nearness. She could try to run, but he would chase her; she could fight back, but it was unlikely she could get a good strike upon him since he didn't leave any room for movement. He had won, and he knew it.

Her blood pounded as her teeth dislodged themselves from his body. Her own was being forced down like he were an avalanche until a force knocked out her back leg soon leading to the woman being on her back, front paws flailing upwards to strike his face and protect her throat, her back legs kicking in her panic and fury.
She started screaming in her fury then, hurling insults that not even Flicker's author could write ( and she has a vast vocabulary ), but it remained along the lines of get off me, you ass and I will murder you, but much more colourful.
But what really poached her egg was the grin. That insufferable grin that she owned and oft threw at her fallen opponents. She threw every once up at the man, teeth snapping like a crocodile to his face and legs kicking to turn her over and get the fuck out. And to run.
So she did, or at least attempted to, and she silently vowed to return and destroy every being the mountain held; innocent or not. They all came from the same place, in Flicker's mind.

She wasn't sure if she had helped at all, but either way, her protector managed to pin the other woman to the ground. Speedy struggled to get up, her wound starting to make her feel a little unsteady. She managed to right herself just as the other woman broke free of her packmate's hold and sprinted away. Her focus shifted from the woman's fleeing form to her injured partner. She tried to gauge his state of awareness, still a little wary that he might turn on her again in his heightened state. She needed to see his wound, though, so the healer pushed any reservations aside, and moved towards him, hoping he wouldn't go after the blackfeather wolf. She would chase his ass down to tend to his injury if she had to.
December 10, 2018, 05:02 PM
She was screaming at him and all he could do was snap his teeth in her face and try to shut her up, earning her a few more cuts and bruises; he didn't want to kill her so quickly, relishing in the raw power he felt flooding his system with the adrenaline. But she was persistent, wriggling, panicking, snapping her own teeth at him - until she got a glancing blow across his snout that made him recoil for a split second. It was enough for her to get free — and then there were the thunderous sounds of her racing feet as the Blackfeather woman fled for her life. Revui roared with indignation - furious that his plaything had escaped, furious that his domination was over, and furthermore he was livid that she was going to survive him.
Revui lunged for her, throwing himself in to a cacophonous run along her bloody path, but found himself staggering and stumbling. He came crashing to earth as if she had struck him hard across the face, but the foul woman was long gone by the time he settled against the snow. Blood was seeping from the wounds to his face, the tears to the flesh of his shoulder and chest, and he was weak from the bloodloss. His bezerker fury had finally shown its real downside, leaving Revui panting and useless in the snow.

She'd broken free, finally. Her face stung as she raced along with a laugh as she realised her attacker had fallen. God, her face really did sting. She should get the wounds looked at, but for now with her new and relished the joy of freedom and let loose a ravens laugh, making a small leap, before pushing into another gear to get her home before any more came to investigate the screaming.
Her aim now to go straight home and tell Relmyna, it would be her duty to. She could also rub in that smug ass of Wintersbane her adventure; but discreetly. She wasn't an angsty adolescent no more. But she was free. The woman doubted that the girl would follow, the wound on her neck looked pretty painful.
Another laugh revealed her thoughts of the young mercenary.
Soon, she would be back at Blackfeather, and she would sleep for a long while. Or get treated, whatever came first.

Of course he went after her, and so Speedy immediately followed, now only filled with concern for her packmate. She saw him stumble and fall to the ground, and panic squeezed the empath's heart. Her hesitant fear of him completely gone, she ran to his side and looked him over worriedly.
Oh, I'm so sorry, she said, tears threatening to form in her eyes again. The wounds on his chest and shoulder seemed the worst, and if he let her, she would bend down to begin to clean them. She knew that was half the battle--keeping them clean. She would worry about how to get him home once she ensured his wounds were cleared of any debris. Her wound had weakened her as well, but the throbbing pain was soon forgotten and replaced with only guilt and concern for her protector.
December 10, 2018, 05:44 PM
Her protector. Had he known what Speedy thought of him, of how she blamed herself for this, he would've brandished those bloodied teeth in her direction — none of this had been her fault, it was all because of him. Revui's zeal got the better of him. His yearning to be considered a real warrior, his need to dominate, his poor choices and lack of experience. He'd attacked her by mistake, for crying out loud! It was something he would remember for a long while. If he was capable of feeling guilt then it would have been an insurmountable obstacle for him; but for now, Revui was busy trying to catch his breath as he bled all over the snow.
The girl's apology was clipped with emotion, and she fell upon him with an eager need to remedy the situation, but Revui pulled away from her tongue's lashing and rumbled a low tone. He was starting to get light-headed, which might've been what prompted him to slur in her direction,

My fault—Blackfeather—should'a killed her,and as he fell quiet he swallowed, tasting the sharp copper quality of the blood between his teeth. Revui meant to console her and take the blame, but couldn't quite form the words.

He moved away from her attempt to clean his wounds, stating that it was his fault for not killing the blackfeather woman. She wanted to tell him differently, that it had been her fault for approaching the stranger in the first place, especially given how close in proximity they were to the woman's territory. The thought renewed her fear, and she glanced around anxiously, her mind assaulting her with images of more enemy wolves coming back to finish the job. Another more pressing problem was the blood continuing to ooze from his wounds; it worried the healer greatly. She needed cobwebs or moss and silently cursed herself for not keeping one of her old caches stocked for such a situation. She urged herself to think beyond her crushing panic. Think dammit. And then she remembered the creek that ran through the scorched forest. There had to be moss there, she silently pleaded. She looked back to her protector, anxiety twisting her usually cheerful face.
Luckily, it didn't take her too long, even with her injury protesting angrily to every movement she made. She skidded to a stop near the partially frozen stream, her front paws sinking into the frigid water. Frantically, she searched for what she needed and began to panic again when she couldn't find it. She move through the icy water, completely ignoring her own health until finally she found what she had come here for. She sighed in relief as she spotted the moist, green plant covering a bolder just a little farther down stream. She bolted to the stone, and ripped off as much of the plant as she could possibly carry.
Wasting no time, she sprinted back to her packmate and took her spot at his side again. Panting from pain and exertion, She dropped her mouthful and looked at him again.
She picked up a chunk of the moss and looked to his face, warning him of what was about to come. If he let her, she would place it on the wound with the most blood seeping out first, hopefully stopping staunching the flow.
I need to leave you for only a few minutes. I need to stop your bleeding but what I need is back by the water. She got to her feet, shooting him one last worried glance and unless he stopped her, she ran back towards the water.

I need to put this on your wounds. I'm sorry, it's going to hurt' and I don't have anything here for pain, she explained.
Once I stop the bleeding, I need you to try and get up. We need to get out out of here and get closer to home, she urged. She didn't think they would be able to make it all the way home now, but she would feel much better if they at least moved from this place.

His correction didn't elicit a response from the woman, which only cemented Revui's thoughts on the subject. He was at fault, he had hurt one of his own - a wolf he was supposed to protect - and he had failed to kill the enemy. His sister Hydra had been right to warn him about his bloodlust; he should not have come barrelling in so readily, and called for help instead. But it was too late now. The stranger was injured and on the run. He was injured, and soon Speedy was finding a remedy for that. Nothing would fix the blow to his pride and self confidence though, which ached in the leviathan's deepest recesses.
Speedy left to fetch something, and Revui wallowed in his self-pitying thoughts until her return. Her warnings were met by moody little grunts of acquiescense to indicate that he'd heard her — and then she set about applying the moss to his wounds, soaking up the warm blood that coated so much of his silver coat. He winced and drew back his lips in protest but he did not lash out.
Revui didn't need further prompting. He took a sharp breath in through his nose and forced himself to stand, only to stagger and lean against Speedy for support; with her aid he'd make his way back towards the mountain, but with every step he felt his spirit shrink. There was no way to explain what had happened - his parents would be furious, but most importantly they would be disappointed in his stupid attempt to play the hero.

We need to get out of here and get closer to home,Speedy urged once most of the blood had begun to coagulate.

Much to her relief, he didn't prevent her from applying the moss to his wounds. He winced, despite her attempt to be gentle, and the healer looked up at him.
He spoke no disagreement with her suggestion to get out of this place. The empath anxiously watched him pull himself to his feet, gladly catching him when he faltered and fell on to her side. He was heavy, but she wouldn't let them stay here any longer and possibly be exposed to further danger. She gave him unwavering aid, as she slowly helped him walk from the eerie forest, hoping to make it home before she exhausted all of her strength. She too was worried about what awaited them back on the mountain. What if they banished her from the pack for this? He was the alpha's son, and she had gotten him badly injured. It was something that would plague her thoughts for their entire journey, but she would deal with whatever was coming her way as long as she just got her protector home safely.
I'm sorry, she quietly soothed between applications, wishing she could take his pain on herself. She worked silently and quickly for a few moments, wanting be done causing him more discomfort. Her eyes found his again and were filled with only gratitude.
Thank you for helping me. I could not have dealt with that wolf on my own,she said as she finished up. She wasn't sure what would have happened had he not shown up, but she knew she didn't trust that woman at all.
