"It's kind of like a den built out of sticks and mud," Wildfire explained, head cocked slightly. "Sometimes beavers build them in places that even affect the water flow. They're kind of cool to look at, though it makes the beaver a more difficult sort of prey to catch."

Of course the hunter-in-training was more than enthusiastic about exploring all things muskrat. Briefly, Wildfire reflected back on the time she'd spent hours hunting them with the girl's father, Gavriel. Wildfire's lips twitched and she nodded. "All right, c'mon." With a flick of her damp black tail, she then began to lope along the shoreline, searching for signs of muskrats among the cattails.
