Valette wasn't aware that she didn't know the full story. In her opinion, her brother had always been aloof towards her. They never had the greatest bond because of Valette's prejudice towards her brother. The female was certain that Xan didn't want to get to know her. This was until she laid her differences with him aside in their last meeting. She thought that things would change after that, that she would see her brother more often but that hadn't been the case. Valette's feelings had been hurt once more.

She didn't think he had other reasons for it. She thought it was because he didn't like her. Hence why she had been so offensive when he wanted to know about her children. She didn't see any value in having him around. Even when the male started to explain that he hadn't forgotten about her Valette felt too skeptical to believe it. He could have gotten refuge in her pack, instead, he ran away from his problems. Running into an old friend that apparently he had failed as well. Valette stayed quiet as she listened to his story.

Even though, Xan looked affected by the story Valette couldn't muster any empathy for the male. He had been so absent in her life that he could have been a stranger. She didn't understand why he was so hung up on what he called family while he didn't even know her. He probably didn't even know about her name change. She wasn't Desna anymore. She had her own hardships and grew stronger from them. She glanced at her brother. "I'm sorry that you had to endure so much hardship," she spoke finally. She truly hoped that having a pack in Bearclaw would bring him some peace.

Valette still didn't believe him though. She wished to stay in contact but all the previous years made her wary. "Let's stay in contact then," she spoke, rolling the ball to his court. She would leave it up to him if he would stay in contact. She didn't feel like running after him like a mother. She would have her own children to do that with soon enough. She was going to let him make the effort if he wanted a sibling bond with her. She was fine with him starting a pack next to hers in the valley that they were born in but she would leave it up to him if he was going to commit. She would need to see that commitment from Xan first before she would even consider him family again.
