Time seemed to freeze after Finley said those words. She half expected them to mean nothing to Lucy, or to simply confuse her more. Maybe both. But it wasn't confusion that passed across her daughter's face, but realization. She felt her heart stop as she watched the emotion write the story across Lucy's face, each chapter something new, and ending with only pain and accusation.

But you let me go.

Her heart fell. 

"You ran," Fin answered, hardly thinking, "After what happened.. I didn't want to force you..." She had spent so much time since that day replaying everything in her head and hating herself for not doing something differently. But her daughter had been a ghostly, scared, broken thing even then when she'd found her in the woods. She hadn't known how to get her to come home, and she hadn't had the heart to make her when so much had so clearly already been done to her against her will.
