Grezig’s ears pushed forward as her eyes opened. She had heard Liri’s howl and she rose to her paws quickly, like a soldier given orders to march. She shook sleep from her bones and mind as she moved through the meadow. They were not a pack yet, their little band, but already Grezig thought of Liri as a kind of Alpha. She did not know much about any of them (and had serious doubts about Elixir, the mutt who looked more dog than wolf) but she was proud to be a part of something that could be great one day. Sure, it would be a lot easier to join a pack already established, but her pride made her stay. To be a founding member of a brand-new pack was a chance she could not overlook. And besides, maybe somewhere down the line, her loyalty would be rewarded. So, when Liri called, she answered.

Soon, she found her Alpha and came to sit beside her, looking down the hill at the group of deer. “A hunt,” she said, keeping her voice quiet to avoid startling the creatures. This would be good. They would all need their strength for the journey of finding a home.
