Jokes aside, Wildfire was fascinated. She wished she could meet this wolf and see how effectively she could communicate with him. Of course, all wild wolves used body language but most relied on verbal cues as well. She tried to think of whether she had ever had a purely nonverbal interaction with another wolf. Wildfire couldn't remember.

"It's Moonspear," she corrected politely, automatically, before she caught his goofy expression and realized it was meant as a joke. She twitched her lip at him, then cocked her head as she pondered his question. "We've definitely got some special wolves," Wildfire replied, simultaneously applying several different meanings to the word, "but nobody's mute or anything like that. Although... my dad and my brother back at the caldera, they're both, er, disadvantaged." They would hate that term, she knew. "My dad has a bum eye and Nightjar has a bum ear."
