A beast, tall and terrible, emerged from the ferns and stepped right into Blixen's path. The little girl looked upon the she-wolf and inhaled sharply as her eyes blew wide with alarm, and her breath arrested in her lungs—unable to scream for help. A half-beat of silence brought her the logic that this was not, in fact, a monster. However, her imagination was predisposed to run wild so instead of grasping onto the straw that was reason, Blixen decided to run away with the idea that this was a slavering monster. Maybe one of her mother's own beasts sent to fetch her.

So, Blixen did as any normal child would do when faced with a stern adult—shriek. An ear-piercing, earth-rending wail of a sound that was sure to offend any wolf within a three-mile radius. But as she gathered up another breath into her lungs, her cries turned to mock-fury and her little muzzle wrinkled as she flashed tiny, gaped, milk-teeth. "AHH! IMMA FIGHT YOU, MONSTER! YOU'LL NEVER TAKE ME ALIVE!" She screeched as she took up a battle-stance.
