The creekside kept her close, and in the last few days, only Charon closer as she became an otherwise elusive beast. Since it was staying relatively warm for such early springtime, and she had not shedded out very much of her dark winter coat yet, anywhere cool and shady seemed most inviting. There were the occasional times when the cerberus was out ranging that they could afford to steal away to the cave (that cave) but smelling multiple daughters so thickly all over it was mildly off-putting to the mind more keen to other things. She would usually steer it away quickly in favor of another hidden facet of the mountain.

So, the dark alpha was weighing her options beside the small waterway with @Charon somewhere not far away from her. She was currently trying to muster an appetite up, but ultimately failing although her last meal had been hours ago and she'd been busy in the meantime. Ame stared in silence and downed a long, cold drink with her front paws just touching the water's edge enough to get wet.
mainly paging @Korei Julia but other bebe beasties are welcome too

She had kept herself scarce lately, seeking audience with only her sisters really and, on occasion, her parents. There was no real reason to her elusiveness, Lyra just seemed to be the sort who sometimes wanted to simply disappear. It was best at night, where her dark coat blended into the background and she could slip in and out of sight with ease. Her stalking was getting better, too. Even when sauntering along their mountain, the girl kept her footfalls light and took care not to make even the smallest sound. It was the way she liked it.

She had been weaving through the undergrowth near the river that snaked its way through their territory when she spied her mother. Charon's scent was nearby, too, but she didn't see him. A small smile played on her lips and the alpha's daughter lowered herself to the ground, playing the game Amekaze had undoubtedly come to know. With slow, steady steps, Lyra stalked towards the swarthy female, bright eyes trained unblinkingly upon her form. She was out of the brush now and in the open, but her mother seemed too distracted by her own reflection in the waters.

The chill of the water was refreshing, so she lingered long enough for a few more sips before even considering anything besides just that. When she did finally move her nose away from the waters, she felt a familiar, prickling sensation starting to creep on the back of her neck. She had a good feeling her loneliness was about to end so had to shape up her focus appropriately, and quickly.

Her ears swiveled delicately and she realized at once how close she was already. Amekaze shook the last water drops from her muzzle, and followed out the motion to just give her whole self a quick shake before shifting into a new alertness as she pivoted from the creekside to see the smaller dark figure lurk upon her. She was here already..

Amekaze greeted with a soft chuff — I'm impressed went gently implied in the arced wave of her tail that invited her closer too. She curved her neck somewhat, ticking a stance closer to defensive if needed in case this was one of the more boisterous triplets' moods that had just slid from cover towards her. As she eyed the sleek black girl, suspicion wasn't saying so yet. But with them all growing stronger and more skillful she would rather prepare just in case.

She hadn't got to startle her mother as much as she would have liked, but Amekaze's mild surprise and chuff as she turned from the creek caused Lyra to break into a pleased grin. The wave of her mother's tail was returned with one of her own and the girl slid forward to be closer. She reached out to gingerly nose her muzzle into her thick neck fur, playfully nipping at some of the twisted stray hairs. "Hi, mama," she greeted softly.

She was sure Ame wouldn't be able to discern which of her daughters Lyra was yet, but she kind of liked it when her parents were uncertain of who was who. The anonymity gave her some sense of confidence almost. She brushed past the slightly larger wolf — who she almost stood as tall as now — and gave a barely audible giggle. "Aw, I was so close," she said with feigned disappointment before dipping her head down to take a sip from the creek.

There were only certain traits that separated them but nearly as quickly as she had learned to discern them, they had learned to mimic them among themselves. It was not a flawless system, at least, to spare her that much. Sometimes right before her eyes they'd shift and change through the gradient of personalities they were comprised of, but it was never easy to tell exactly who at the first glance. Sometimes it came easier, sometimes it was just as simple to lump them together as one almost though. She had come to find it very circumstantial.

The greeting she returned matched well to what she was given. Her contact was always peppered with nips, so turned onto her, she was plenty within her element and she gripped back at the girl's scruff gently before nudging at her more. All the while, the creek's gentle burbling was a subtle enough distraction to underline every thought with.

On height, however, she smirked and gathered herself up just to prove the point — it was still nothing but middling average, although her coat and presence seemed to extend this (or so she believed), but they'd still caught up far too quickly. "Awh, such a shame," she grinned back with her own mock despair and slowly waving tail. If the rest of her appearance reflected so boldly back at her through them was any indication, Ame suspected that if they did not match, they may even surpass her juust barely. The three were certainly the most robust of the litter. She guessed Julia would stay a touch smaller, perhaps for the rest of their lives. "But give it time. Before the summer gets too hot, I bet you will have me matched." she reckoned with a smirk. If not more and if not sooner.

I'm so sorry for the wait! D:

Lyra was certain Amekaze had either interacted with Hydra the roughest, or her sister took more after their mother than Charon. Probably both. Their behaviours were so similar especially when greeting and playing and Lyra — as well as Alya, she was sure — was forever covered in tiny bites and scratches from her more rambunctious sister. Not that she minded; their play was just that and they never drew blood.

The girl withheld a playful pout as Amekaze drew herself up to her full height, though she genuinely admired the regal figure her mother cut. She was proud to have her blood running through her own veins and there was no denying the triplets were Amekaze's children.

Lyra smiled gleefully back as her mother's words, now more excited than ever for the summer. They had been born on the tail end of the warmer months and this would be their first full summer. Charon had told her it was when plants flourished after the rains and prey was bountiful. Not to mention it was when they would finally be considered real adults. She thought back to Korei, then, and asked with a curious quirk of her head, "why is Korei different?"

There was much to look forward to with the warming of the summer. She always anticipated it above the other seasons--her favorite, always, even despite the struggle it could still bring in its own way. Something about the balmy nights, the greenery, those stars overhead. It aligned just right for her, somehow, and in all her years, she knew not to doubt this.

Next question, though, drove towards a new point. Ame lifted her head, peering back; they always, without fail, could find the difficult questions that had no such easy answer. "It happens. Litters sometimes have a lot of variety in them," and to her, the fact that these three were so similar was borderline alarming. Perhaps that begged an even more frustrating question: why they managed to match so perfectly? "A brother of mine was silvery-furred, and one of my sisters had orange eyes. None of us looked exactly identical," Amekaze elaborated, not that these were exceptional real-life examples. None could meet these individuals of which she spoke. "All because wolves further back in your ancestry than just me and your father may have looked like that, or bits of that mixed and matched so that it is not even obvious where it comes from anymore; Why do you ask?" She, too, was just curious.

It had been an innocent question, borne purely out of curiousity. Having no other siblings apart from her mirror image sisters and the one black white sheep that was Korei, Lyra of course had no clue wolves could be different yet also come from the same litter. In her mind, Korei was simply an oddity; she was meant to look just like she and Hydra and Alya but, for some reason or another, hadn't come out that way.

"Oh," the girl said simply in reply, frowning down at her paws as her mind whirred with this new information. The heck was a brother? And orange eyes? She tried to imagine such a thing but couldn't. Was it the triplets who were the oddities, then? The fact that something may be wrong with she and her sisters was distressing, and the crease in Lyra's brow deepened. "Wh-why are Hydra and Alya identical to me, then? Are we weird?" Her voice broke on the last word, the first hints of tears welling in her eyes as she looked up to her mother with rising panic. She didn't want to be weird!

The information seemed to strike. Ame's ears fell back even further, with a soft sigh following the very thought. This was more complicated than she wanted, in truth. Even her understanding of the reasons why this was were incomplete, and quite beyond her understanding, although she knew she could sense some sort of methodology in why genes played out as they oftentimes did. Nature would not do so carelessly.

But it was just that very truth which made this difficult, and Amekaze would give her nothing less. "Odds were just bound to line up that way. With my black coat, and your father's midnight eyes, it does not surprise me. I would not call it weird," she explained in earnest. They looked like their parents, too, and represented a subtle twist on something her ancestors had sought after generations past: luminous in the dark--cunning dark coats and their striking eyes. "But I still have never known others, let alone a trio, who are quite as identical as you three are." If anything, that was what made them more curious than the average, and how they operated on their wavelength among them. Not only were they siblings, but it went far deeper.

Want to wrap this up soon? :D

Her mother's words were somewhat of a comfort, soothing Lyra's self-concious panic that threatened to bubble over. She spoke sense, explaining her own coat colour and Charon's eyes which were both mimicked perfectly by the triplets. Again, this led Lyra to wonder why Korei had hints of cream in her fur and golden eyes. Of course, the truth was darker than genetic fuckery and was something she would probably never actually find out about.

A tiny smile wound its way onto her lips as Amekaze spoke further, feeling a minuscule amount of pride for she and her sister's...uniqueness. Perhaps it wasn't such a bad thing, being weird? It definitely had its advantages sometimes. Still, she pondered over it, and no doubt would discuss it with Hydra and Alya. If they cared at all.

"Thanks, mama," Lyra said quietly after a moment, looking back up to Amekaze and brushing her muzzle through her mother's thick fur. Her attention turned back to the creek beside them and, in an attempt to distract herself, the girl stepped past Ame and peered into the gurgling waters. "Are there fish in there?" she asked casually as she could.

While there was a great deal more to be said on the topic, it seemed to be enough for now. Amekaze was grateful for her thanks as well, happy to nudge the girl back a bit if she could. She then nodded, and creased her muzzle in a momentary thought when she turned her stare upon the creekside in a newer, freshly predatory light. "There better be," she mused with a smirk. There had been before, and nothing about the mountainside lead her to believe otherwise should be true right now. "We can find out." Ame concluded, stepping forward with purpose towards the edge and pointing up the stream. "I may know a good spot," she offered before slipping into motion, heading that way, presumably with Lyra in step alongside.
