In the dark, the black-helmeted wolf watched Larus -- her countenance unconcerned as he seemed at a loss. She blinked only, offering no comfort or insight -- she was neither aware nor compassionate enough to discern the tumultuous thoughts that wracked his young mind.

Instead, she was only aware that he was eventually nodding off. She smiled wickedly to herself, pleased with the day's work -- and like a lamplight extinguished her eyes closed and she too drifted into sleep.
