Had Olive been able to read Rannoch’s thoughts as easily as she read the stars, she would have been truly impressed with his magnanimity. It was the sign of a good leader, when one was able to navigate the twists and turns of leadership without absolutely derailing. Because Rannoch was so giving, she did not have to squander any want she had for herself, or for her family. Oh, she owed him so much!
