to be anonymous.

tamar kept from mingling, offering shy glances or quick smiles whenever anyone looked her way.

she fished on the banks for snacks upon which the many children might dine, but otherwise kept her distance from the camps.

her eyes were on the bison. tamar found a low-slung hill and sat to watch them.

Tamar had a shadow.

With father busying himself for the hunt, Leifa had spent her time playing with the many other children that had come to watch. None she recognised, but all were interesting in their own ways. Some smelled of the sea - of home - others of oak and pine.

Boredom had soon kicked in as many settled down to watch the hunt; she had slipped away to explore the camps when the moonwomen's backs were turned, one such tasty treat clasped firmly in her jaws.

A figure on a nearby rise she recognised as the woman of Epoch, now Raventhorpe like her. She approached with a muffled, "Hey, you're 'amar, righ'?" her mouth full of fish.

any blooming plans died.

"leifa," tamar said, almost guiltily, glancing at the mouthful of fish carried by the other.

"how are you enjoying yourself?" she said, looking back upon the waving grass and the darkfurred bodies.
