All Welcome
this is noatak's opening her eyes thread. a little late getting this up but oh well. she could be a lil slow in development. anyway, other pups or parents feel free to hop in, but if no one joins this in like a week, I'll close it. Using an emotion wheel, I generated Noatak's emotion state upon opening her eyes: Anger. Interesting.

Noatak opened her eyes for the first time. At first she did not notice, for it was dark inside the den, and a baby's eyesight is weak. What she noticed first was the urge to blink, which she did. Slowly, low light began to come to her, and she stared at it, or at its source, confused. Shapes began to make themselves known to her as her new eyes adjusted to the light. Things appeared out of the previous darkness.

Noatak blinked around at the den, her wobbly head swiveling from one lumpy thing to another. Suddenly, an angry piercing wail filled the den. Apparently, she could've gone her entire life without seeing anything, because Noatak did not like what she saw. Anger can sometimes be covered up fear, and perhaps this was her true emotional state: fear upon seeing strange shapes appear in her previously dark and safe world. And, instead of cowering from them, she screamed in rage. Or, gave a pathetic mewling wail, as it were.

A cry pierced the den.

Issorartuyok’s eyes fluttered open. He had been sleeping rather peacefully beside his children. He had spent the better part of the last hour watching over them, making note of their movements, their sounds. The little squirms and squeaks filled his mind with bliss.

Noatak had discovered her sight. The northerner smiled gently to his little girl. His large frame hovered over her for a moment. Issorartuyok sniffed at her head before offering a consoling kiss.

Shh… shh. Your spirit has journeyed and found its sight, my sweet girl. The man’s voice was gentle, coaxing.

I'm going to assume that pups can also smell stuff at two weeks. There was nothing in the pup development thread thing about their sense of smell at this point...

A looming shadow came and swooped down upon Noatak almost immediately after she began to cry. She felt a warm tongue on her head, and smelled a familiar smell. Her father, though she did not know that yet. What she knew was that this was not the one who provided milk, but this one was still around a fair amount. The familiarity was a comfort to her, as well as the warmth of the lapping tongue on her head. With a last quiet whimper, she snuggled down again and went back to sleep.

Others are still free to join and wake her back up or whatever. I'll keep this open for a while.

Qeorvik's eyes had opened before, but probably not long enough for either parent to take notice. Like his newly gifted sister, he actually preferred not to see, but his own discomfiture had come and gone in silent revulsion. Where he simply felt content to keep his eyes glued shut, Noatak was much more vocal with her abhorrence.

The vibration of her squalling was new and concerning -- inadvertently causing the boy to open his eyes as well. It was much clearer than any of the other times he had bothered to open them, and he was entranced by the blurred shape of his father's muzzle as it came down to soothe the angry shuddering at his side. Qeorvik stared dumbly.

This was... an interesting development. He was generally low on the problematic totem pole, but he could not help his curiosity now. The boy began to ascend the head of Mount Noatak in an effort to investigate the great nose from above.

The man looked at his daughter with glowing love upon his face. She was delicate and sweet. Upon her back was a soft dusting of golden color, her underbelly a muted ivory. Issorartuyok could hardly fathom the idea that something so small could grow into a wolf – a hunter, or scout. No matter her size, he was infatuated with the softness of her coat and the noises that she made. He hummed softly until she offered a small whimper and nestled into the warmth of his arms.

Qeorvik was something else entirely. His curiosity burned, pushing him to climb atop his sister’s head and try to draw closer to the northern man. Issorartuyok chuckled before scooping the boy up in his mouth and placing him beside Noatak with a neat little bop to his head. You are a climber, Qeorvik. A man who will know the mountain. A smile found his face.

raelle, too, had opened her eyes some days before, but the event had come and passed without much fanfare. she had promptly started to scream again, and the moment was lost on her poor, exhausted mother.
just now, the redhead was unusually quiet and inquisitive in her demeanor. when things started to move and jostle around her, she merely reached out with her paws and prodded qeorvik curiously. her siblings were familiar to her, but still largely unknown. soon the discovery of her siblings would dominate her thoughts.

just a cameo!

Perhaps Lilia might have experienced the shock of first sight as well, had she not been more content to sleep. When the others stirred, it bothered her, and it seemed like her quiet, peaceful rest times were becoming fewer and shorter.

She uttered a dissatisfied squeal when the sounds in the den got louder. She could feel the low, calming vibrations of her father’s voice but presently, she wanted none of it. She wanted sleep.  She squeezed her eyes shut even tighter, and burrowed her face into the warm fuzz of her guardian, and made soft, grumpy growls with each exhale until she soothed herself back to sleep.

I left this open for anyone to reply one more time, or to just let it fade. It seems we have a couple of the little ones inactive, but that's alright! Noatak, I can make a more up-to-date thread for dad and Noatak maybe? Would be nice now that they're a bit older. Anyway, this is good to respond once more to, or archive. ^^

The man was pleased to see that his children were so lively. His eyes shifted to each of them, taking in their small figures with a smile. They were beautiful and healthy. Their mother had done a wonderful job bringing them into the world. They would grow strong, he was certain. None of them had shown any signs of illness, save for the troubles that Antha had faced during the pregnancy.

Issorartuyok blew a soft puff of air at Noatak. His snout nudged to Qeorvik softly, hoping to rouse noise from the boy. Raelle seemed content to explore her siblings with a few prods. They were good children. Lilia seemed content to sleep with her mother. This was fine.

The northerner would spend time with his children until they had grown tired of him, and then he would place them gently beside their mother before seeking to tend to the village needs.
