backdating this a bit

Swordfish could not be found and the Sveijarn-Corten family was about to set their course South. Njord’s mind buzzed like a beehive. All of a sudden, the man realized he had not seen @Rhaegal – and not in many days. It was not unusual for any pack wolf to range for multiple days at a time… but what would he be coming home to? A pile of bodies or the shards of Sapphique’s once-strong gems?

Njord found a high place and then threw back his crown and called to his kin, not knowing if he was in range to receive.

A bear has attacked Sapphique.

Swordfish cannot be found.

My family and I move South.

A howl could only contain so many thoughts… but by the way Njord crooned it was evident a terrible thing had taken place.

tag for reference! replied to acknowledge that rhaegal heard the howl. <3

he has enjoyed his time with @Vairë, preparing himself for the last task she'd set for him: the doe pelt.

he tracks a few herds, observing from a distance like a shepherd watches his flock in the meantime, considering his next moves carefully.

and not just the herd.

he is idly watching one such herd when the howl rises; the voice recognized as his uncle njord.

a bear attack.

a cousin missing.

njord and meerkat leaving sapphique and heading south.

it's a lot of news to observe at once; and though part of rhaegal desires to send back a howl he does not for fear of startling the herd he was close to.

a bear?

he'd meant to take vairë to sapphique, even temporarily, until they made a decision on where they would go from there... but now doubt creeps into his mind.

what would he be taking her to?

a horrendous massacre?

it feels wrong to consider that he shouldn't even return, especially because he owed them better than that, respected them more than that ...but uncertainty digs its claws into him.

he would discuss this with vairë then, when they were wed. get her opinion on what he — they — should do; and suggest that they divert to visit njord and meerkat in the south, preferably before mini rhaeirë's came into the picture.
