Ashlar let his song fade as he thought about the next line.  The melody was similar to the one the man had used, way back when he'd sung that shanty.  The boy didn't recall the words perfectly, but the rhythm of it had been catchy enough that now he replicated it into a song he'd started up on his own.

He broke out in a grin and began to run, starting up his singing again as he did.  He had it!

I've got four paws and two gold eyes,
ay-o away I go,
To carry me through lows and highs,
ay-o away I go,

And though I'll miss the times we held,
ay-o away I go,
Know I'll return with the ice does melt,
ay-o away I go,

Ashlar laughed, then slowed to a stop in the meadow to catch his breath.  He thought that he might love the autumn more than anything.  The air was cold, the wind was nice and crisp, and the leaves under his paws made for some pretty excellent accompaniment when he sang.  Even if no one was around to listen, he couldn't help but feel lighter for it.
