She'd sent him on a suicide mission, a journey across countless miles to retrieve a woman who had hated him, to kill a man for that purpose — now he came home to Everett looking worn and beaten, and Reverie cuddled up to the shadiest motherfucker in the pack, looking perfectly content to him. Her happiness sat prettily on its high shelf, bought at the expense of everyone around her. As usual. Reina’s outburst was only more proof of that.

Somewhere during his tirade, his gaze had shifted to Reverie.

You know what? Fuck this, He took another step forward, this time moving with purpose toward Dusty Rose. Whatever Tybault’s intentions were, no one would ever know. Maybe not even him. Before anything else could happen, even a second thought crossing his frenzied mind, Reverie darted into his path with teeth closing around his muzzle.

It was only natural to react. He didn't really mean to hurt her, only to hold her there for a moment. She should have expected it. Should have stayed still rather than wrenching away. It was just like Reverie to turn a simple thing into a spectacle.
