she watched this strange man as he descended down, down, down, further and further into a spiral she did not know how to relieve him from. so much as looking at his face exhausted her on his behalf.
there was no obligation. she did not need to be here, did not need to spare helpless glances to the empty sky and stay swift at his hip with ragged breaths and swollen feet, and yet she did.
he was mad for this. perhaps she was too.
