When his stare was met with silence and the turn of his captors head, Nokht would pull the armadillo leg close and spare a few half-hearted bites from it. His appetite was squandered, though he tried to muster some appreciation for the meal.
He was still deathly afraid, make no mistake, but for a moment he tried to be brave. He peeled himself from the corner and inched closer, eyes of amethyst and goldenrod geared towards his captors face, frightening as it was.
His words were unpracticed, but a part of him still felt like this was just a big misunderstanding, he'd snuck out, so he was in trouble for it, he'd never been bitten by his mother, or the others when he got in trouble, but he was coming to find out that some adults were less kind than others.
A part of him still believed that everything could be solved by asking nicely.
