"Some of 'em can be pretty nasty," he agreed. He stayed away from the eight-legged ones. Crickets were easy. Less wriggly. 

"Here, let me look at it." he said, stepping towards the wolf. Phobos might be able to alleviate the pain, if it was required.

there was an entire order to insects val did not understand. he knew beetles to be edible though some often tasted poor; grub could sustain a starving wolf for a time, and while hardly worth the effort, most moths could be eaten.

he turned his head as pepper offered to look at it. you might see some boogers there, he added sheepishly, rubbing his tender nose with a paw. im sure it’s fine - maybe some fish will make it feel better. val joked, tail waving easily at his hocks.

He grinned at the comment. Pepper had seen much worse than boogers, but if Val didn’t see a proper inspection fit, Pepper wouldn’t push. They could always deal with it if it did end up being a problem. 

”Bait’s gone. You think if I ask ‘em nice enough, they’ll jump up here ‘n let us eat ‘em?” 

A joke, obviously. But wouldn’t it be nice.
