All Welcome
Not sure who’s around, but she’d be looking for @Akavir @Arlette and @Arric

Chacal’s golden shoulders were speckled with snow by the time she reached Swiftcurrent’s borders. Inland she roved, past the Rise which had been abandoned months ago. She watched the mountains fall and rise as she moved, knowing only that she should follow along with them until she found a creek deep, dark, and fast-moving. In places, it was frozen- but she knew better than to take any risk on the ice. The current beneath was swift enough that it would mean certain death for any who fell through.

Faintly among the scent of the wolves here, she caught a trace of her daughter's scent. Suzu was not the type to volunteer for border patrols, anyway- but it seemed she had been active in the area recently.

Chacal did not know that Shark was missing- and that his absence had prompted her daughter to become more willing to rove.

Here she came, knowing that the wolves expected to give a full trial for Sobeille. Here she came, to deliver- somehow- the news that Sobeille had disappeared.

Blood for blood, an eye for an eye; but with the guilty party gone, what would they want for a price?

She called, summoning the wolves of the Creek.
It can be assumed that if Chacal is speaking, she will be singing. Her speaking patterns will always have a melodic quality to them.

Patrolling the borders was miserable work, especially when turn after turn revealed no trace of her son. She loathed the Creek, casting the assumption that it had robbed her of her son. Now as it froze in places where the bed was shallow, she couldn’t help but wonder if it might freeze him too; and that his poor body might be stuck in time until Spring set him free.

Her mother’s voice alarmed her. She knew only that Sobeille would face a trial, for having injured two girls from the Creek, and she shuffled her way back along the borders, hoping she might nab a moment alone with the leaders of Sapphique so she might hear their side of the story before the Creek wolves put them on trial-

But it was only Chacal who had come. And while her heart was still bitter, she could barely keep herself together at the sight of her mother.

Maman! She rushed forward, to embrace her mother, telling herself that now was not the time to break down- not when she came to speak with the leaders. Why be you ‘ere? She asked in a hushed, hurried voice. No doubt the Tanzanite’s voice would attract attention. Where be Mireille an’ Sobeille? You come ‘ere alone? There was worry in her voice. Something was not right.

Arric heard the summons and shit if he didn't remember that howl. And he grew sick real quick
Remembering now why he recognized the accent of Suzu and Etienne. @Arlette knew the history here, but he repeated it or the small version of it at least before he headed towards it.

Blue eyes fell on the sea queen and he dipped his head. He could hold grudge but why. They had both been stupid.

Hello sea queen.  What can we help ya with?

A glimpse of knowing in his gaze but tempered with kindness.

Her daughter’s voice soothed her soul like a balm, and yet she feared what her daughter might see should her new leaders look upon her visit as a snub. She held Suzu tightly for a moment, brushing away a brave tear into her daughter’s fur so it might not show upon her cheek, before she released her.

Suzu knew some, she guessed. Word would have spread. She felt foolish, then, for not being sly enough to catch only her daughter- and plot her escape. She doubted that Suzu would agree to such a thing, and wrangling four children to flee their pack would be difficult.

She pulled her daughter to the side with a gentle but firm motion of her limb when Arric approached. She felt no longing for him, given the altercation he had had with Mireille- and yet, his mien was gentle. She attempted to bury her own pride when he greeted her.

Was he being sarcastic? It was hard to tell.

Now for the hard part.

M-m-m-….A-k-k-écouter a la f-f-f-n-n-n-f-f-famille, The words- when they came- were not what she chose. She tried again, and spoke only what could be described as a jittery jumble of stutters and nonsense. Music had betrayed her, and melody did not allow her words to flow as it once had.

When she tried again, forcing herself to blurt out more, she finally reached one sensible word that tripped from her lips gracelessly.

J-j-j-justice.

Her mother’s silence would have been easier to weather. She had known for so long that her mother used melody to help her speak, but she had abandoned the practice, and Suzu- having left before her mother’s condition could return fully- did not understand why.

She turned to Arric and shook her head apologetically. She can speak, She assured him, before she turned swiftly to her mother with a look that was both hurt, and likely hurtful. Why do you not sing? Then back to Arric. She can speak if she sings, perfectly well, She explained quickly, just in time for her mother to successfully utter one word, one that would make Suzu fall silent.

Arric no longer thought of the Sea queen in colors of lust. She was beautiful sure, but the majority of her family was ugly. Even she had shown him and ugly part. All inside. It did not sit well with him ugly hearts. But he also could not lay blame. Everything was handled badly.

However. He did think of her fondly. She and her family had taught him a hard lesson. And Etienne amd Suzu had both been wonderful members to the creek. And it hurt him a little to hear her struggle.

It's okay Suzu. I can figure it out. So I'm guessing. Family and Justice. You wanna know about the incident at the group hunt?

Arric frowned. I wasn't there. I stayed behind with my wife Arlette and our children. But Etienne was there. Did I get it right or do I need to do some more figuring?

She had come expecting for fangs to reach for her, half-figuring that some harm may have already fallen upon her daughter and her young family. She had expected for Akavir to be bitter and resentful, and for Arric to want her blood, especially after his own had been sought when he’d come to Sapphique.

But the Freshwater man was as cool as the waters he lived near, and his perspective ran just as clear, though she wondered now if Akavir had shared the whole story with him.

Two girls, nearly murdered by her niece.

She glanced to Suzu, wondering if her daughter even knew.

Talk of war had come up; perhaps that had been enough to distract the Creek’s alpha, who had so bitterly split the girls apart, whose reluctant mercy had spared Sobeille’s life.

To her daughter she could only give a doleful glance, and a quiet shake of her head. Song could not coax the words, now. Her lips trembled faintly as she realized how ineffective she was as a leader without the use of words for such complex matters.

She came to offer herself in place of Sobeille, but could not say as much. She could not explain to Arric what had happened- and that there had been an agreement that justice would be served. There was only one here who knew what was needed.

N-n-n-….nrrrrrr….Rrrrrrr….k-k-k-k-k He had once heard her sing, and now could only witness her in weakness. nnnnnn….k-k-k….rrrrrrv-v-v-v. Nonsense bubbled from her in a cascade of words, only a few of which were in English, the rest a muddled cocktail of her mothers’ tongue. She shook her head in shame.

She searched for a shred of Akavir’s scent in the area, not knowing that he had gone on a long patrol. Unlike Arric, he did not have a circle around his eye that, if traced, could give away his identity. Charades would not help her here. She flicked her wrist to the man, bidding him to make suggestions. If nothing else, she could nod and shake her head.

we can skip Suzu for now :)

Perhaps a year ago had she come. He'd have wanted a price for the way he had been treated. But Arric did not hold grudges. He hated you or he liked you and you only got one chance. The one thing that saved chacal from his displeasure was she had not turned her teeth to him.

Arric chewed on his inner cheek. He had heard the story. But he also knew where akavir was laying blame. There maybe some blame to lay on cygnet and mae as well, they were not good girls at all. Perhaps once upon a time. But bitterness had sown it's roots there and they could be unkind. Not unkind enough for death of course. But there was always 2 stories and he had not been there. He couldn't make a call.

Akavir is on a patrol and a scouting trip. I believe he was planning on bringing Mae back with him when he comes back. I believe there is to be a trial on neutral ground when all parties are feeling up to it and it can be more pragmatic. But if you're here.

Arric looked her over. ,Did you come to speak on the sea girls behalf? I apologize I'm unsure of her name. Or has something else happened?

He tried to keep his answers to yes or no. And if it hurts ya or is hsrd to speak we can try a closing of an eye for yes and two eyes for no? Or or paw taps? And Arlette may even be able to help ya if it's a medical need.

She nodded, and closed her eyes together.

When she opened them, there was an apology in them.

I come to speak for her; but she is gone,

She wished he could read her mind. So when he continued, and asked if something had come up, she nodded again.

With one long forelimb, she raised a paw. Wriggling her toes, she traced a line from her heart, and then away from herself, as far as she could stretch her limb, and then set it down.

It was humiliating to speak in charades like this- but there was hope.

The man mentioned a name; she uttered a light chuff. It was indeed medical, but not something she had ever been able to remedy on her own. Having found the pits of her own dignity, she was not above asking for a second opinion.

Her mother had once been proud, flawless, and mighty; she could spin words into song, a power more potent than spinning straw into gold. Now, her words tumbled from her like rocks from a cliff; each broken syllable fell against Suzu’s heart and broke it a little bit more.

Her mother had begun to stutter lot long before she had left; had her departure hastened this affliction?

She was grateful for Arric’s patience, as she could see how humiliating this was for the Tanzanite of Sapphique.

With the wave of her mother’s paw, Suzu’s eyes widened. Sobeille? She asked, catching her mother’s gaze. Sobeille be gone? a nod. She looked to Arric. She be sayin’ dat Sobeille…If she be de one ‘o ‘urt your girls…She ‘as run off.

She looked to the ground, considering the repercussions this might have. If she fled a trial, she was practically pleading her own guilt. She did not want to believe that @Sobeille would R-U-N-N-O-F-T but given the penalties she might stand to suffer…She could understand why the young woman might choose to flee.

A tapping of her mother’s paw. Arlette? She asked, and was given a nod. Could Arlette ‘elp ‘er?

And furthermore- would she?

HE listened as well as he could to Chacal in front of him. And his chest hurt that she had to feel so shy about this. These things happened. There were things sometimes that happened in the mind that altered the physical. Arric was no healer like this woman's son or his bride. But he was a therapist after all. He knew when an affliction of the mind caused problems. And he'd bet this one was stress or possibly trauma of some sort. But of what and who he could not fathom. And he hoped he had no added to it.

Arric frowned in thought. That is concerning. But. He took a breath and looked down thinking. I will speak with Akavir about this when he comes back. But unfortunately it seems she made up her own mind.

He looked gravely at Chacal. I cannot promise her safety now Sea Queen. I wish I could. I do not know what cowboy justice maybe given to her. I will try and speak with Akavir. He is usually level headed. But this was his daughter and another that might as well be a daughter. But Iw ill do my best.

He nodded to Suzu. Yes Arlette will help. And i bet if it will make your mama more comfortable she'd work well with Etienne too.

As dreadful as it was to have fallen victim to her aphasia once more, if it meant her daughter forgave her- even just a little bit- then it could not be all bad. Suzu served as an interpreter, and for that, Chacal was grateful.

Perhaps she had chosen well when she had sought Arric once; she was not persuaded to forgive him for his fight with Mireille, but at least she could see why Chani and Chiro had not inherited mean spirits. In spite of the news, Arric didn’t lose his temper.

She knew he couldn’t protect Sobeille, should Akavir seek out justice on his own. Sobeille might some day learn that justice collected interest- and that the punishment she might earn after running away was more dire. She accepted that fact, and would relay that information to Mireille.

At least, it seemed that they were not in jeopardy of being flung into a war because their guilty party had run away. She looked to Suzu then, and stroked a paw from her daughter’s brow, trailing down between her shoulders, and sidling closer. She looked to Arric as she held her daughter, a plea in her eyes as she intoned the two-note melody she had used for Suzu’s name.

With regards to Arlette and Etienne, a nod was given. Perhaps the Swiftcurrent botanist and healer might know of something that could be useful.

Sobeille had always been disobedient- but to be on trial for an attempt at murdering another young girl? It didn’t seem right. She didn’t know what “cowboy justice” was, or what it might mean, but she swallowed hard, and hoped that Akavir wouldn’t pursue her.

She blinked in surprise when her mother touched her brow, and shuddered as her paw trailed down between her shoulderblades where the muscles were sore from general Mom duties with the kids. She smiled, though, but her smile was deciduous. Worry was there in her mother’s face.

She be worried, She said, and felt her mother’s paw flex, so the dull ends of her claws sifted through plush fur. About….me? But- oh. She made a guess. She be….worried dat wid Sobeille gone, dat I might….But you would not punish me for what Sobeille ‘as done, would you? She asked, her eyes widening. I need to know my children be safe, and she understood then, that Chacal had come to do the same.

Horror colored his face, and Arric stepped back as if slapped. And blinked owlishly, blue eyes a little blown wide. he snorted and narrowed his brows.

Of course not. Jesus. he blinked again and snorted once more and shook his head. Deeply deeply offended, but trying really hard not to be. He couldn't entirely blame her. Sure he hadn't shown his best self with her family,e specially his sister. But he wasn't that big of a dick. I mean a dick sure. but.

He tilted an ear and frowned. He took a sharp breath deep and shuddering, horrified that this would cross anyone's mind and shook his head.

Let me make this very clear. I maybe an absolute dick, but I would never hurt someone who was innocent and didn't do something. Not to mention I would never hurt a child. Holy.

He sighed. Suzu go ahead and lead your mama in. I'll get @Arlette and Etienne. They can spend some time and see if they can help her. ANd if she needs a message sent to Sapphique I'll send one of the new recruits.

He dipped his head. Don't worry Sea Queen we'll do our best to help.

He was offended.

It should have been reassuring, but it wasn’t. If nothing else, it reminded Chacal to be grateful that she had not chosen to keep Freshwater man by her side, and allowed him to have influence over the upbringing of the children they had created together. He was quick to dismiss her worry, too quick. Her concerns, or the cause for them, were not validated at all- and she was left feeling as though he was gaslighting her.

She frowned, and pulled back. She would have to trust that Arric would not harm Suzu or her grandchildren- but she was too proud to accept treatment, fearing now that it might have been offered out of pity.

She shook her head when he offered to send someone with her; she did not need a wolf with his words in their mouths, coming to Sapphique. She had delivered news, and was assured that her family would be safe.

All she could do now was hope that he would be true to his word.

She looked to Suzu, and over a long moment of silence, conveyed with her expression her feeling of longing, pleading- and pity. It pained her that her daughter had settled here- so far inland, and among wolves that she did not trust. She knew she would have to weather Suzu’s decisions, but she did not agree with them.

She tried to soften her feathers when she looked back to Arric. She nodded her head to him; stern gaze holding him to his words, but warning him too that he would be treading on thin ice, still, whenever their paths crossed.
It can be assumed that if Chacal is speaking, she will be singing. Her speaking patterns will always have a melodic quality to them.

Arric blew out a breath. He was not handling this well. Of that he was certain. It was clear in the way she stared at him with reproach. She was quick to shut it down, but he knew that look well.

he tilted is head. I am sorry that you feel I would harm your children. But I assure you I would not. They are levelheaded and kind. And very good wolves to have in our pack. I am of the opinion that the guilty party be the one to get punishment not those close to them. But I know that words in a way mean nothing. So i'll just have ot strive to prove that I wouldn't. But I'll go get Arlette.

He tilted an ear, dipped his head down and turned away. Wondering what on earth he had done to make these wolves hate him so much. He had brought fucking food to their borders because she might be pregnant. Holy shit.
