he could not believe what the gods had given him: a girl with the unknown name of @Nutuyikruk who wore moonglow's eyes and — the man who was cen did not dare to dream.
she was his wife's charge now, scruffed but unbruised, dragged back and delivered to star eater. but she was not held as potential mate; no. the chieftain wished to know exactly who she was, and would prise it from her as soon as he was able.
sun eater called bold to his wolves there at the river. "we leave," he announced, one paw clawed into the back of the captive's nape. "too long have the lanzadoii remained in one place. not yet time," and he looked with what might be warmth toward the starwoven.
it had not yet drawn to the hour of snow-shelters. sun eater was restless. "first, i say again the law of saatsine." sun eater recited again the ways of his people: to give up their names, to follow always, to walk with the caribou. to choose only among one another. his words, without @Sulukinak, were not so easy, nor smooth, but he made them understand through force of will.
worry for his niece filtered harsh; he hoped she would return, and with an empty belly. she was unmarried.
and again he spoke of the moonwolves, but this time he said only, "we raid again when sun return. we raid the moon wolves who tore my eye away and stole my son for a time."
he paused for that news to settle, then fixed them all with a demanding stare.
now he stalked among them; he gestured to the glacier which stood tall in the taiga. "not know if it is a new camp. go and see." he did not give this task to any particular; he would take all news of the glacier as it came, and from whoever.
a pointed smile brought attention back to the girl at his paws. "slave to star eater. slave to saatsine. make her carry much." he stepped away, motioning for his wife to take the girl once more. their chieftain did not want her harmed, only reminded of her low place. he still did not sense truly who she was, and would not act without such.
"we go!"
he had chosen this place for his mate. sheltered from much snow, the land bristled rich already with the medicinal stinging scent of a half-dozen herbs, and more to come. rivers here were unburdened by ice, and caribou moved in repose among ancient trees. moss carpeted cold stones, and downy hollows haired by little ferns invited those weary to rest.
a place sheltered, but surrounded by the everlasting herds. sun eater was content to be away, and searched for each member of his pack to arrive.

he felt blindsided.
it was yet another reminder he knew not what went on in the minds of the chieftain. this, for what it was, disturbed him. he had thought he had a read on the man.
blackfell had been proven wrong. he did not know sun eater like he thought he did—but he realized, how could he? he learned only surface level from merely watching, observing, the man. what he saw there, he didn't like; but it was merely because of a biased heart, was it not?
he questioned himself so much that there was no room for questioning sun eater. his blood ran cold at the sight of the girl, no older than ishmira, that he wore beneath his paw like a trophy. appraising the scene with two cruel, crimson eyes. finding his guard hairs lifting ever so slightly; disturbed.
mind turned brooding as he walked. stirred by gjalla, he had ushered veksar to his flank and nudged ishmira along. there was no time to tell @Kaedra that they went. she would know anyhow; he knew his sister was always watching, a persistent ghost following. waiting to see what her kin might do. and what was it they would do...

"Ah!"
Thrusted into the light under the claws of the chief, Nutuyikruk's teeth grit and hissed under pressure. A mass of them, a mass of the stranger people. Sick people, she knew, with twisted faces and feral morals. Once, she had nursed home the soft faces of taken children into the ridge. Now it was she on the ground.
She who was made a spectacle!
Quick did the girl try to take in the faces from that of the taiga clan, but it was not long before that familiar presence of claws reminded Nutuyikruk again of position. Lowly, a catch, a fox in the den of beasts. Then, the Law. Lanzadoii Law, Saatsine Law. Like a chant that ate away at Nutuyikruk's lungs. Focus upon breath! Upon breath! Angry spurts of air out her nose that tried to stay reserved in her upper chest.
The caribou hunters.
No longer was she the raider. Slave. Slave to the people who would raid the moon wolves. No...!
She ushered to the wife of the chieftain, bitter-spirited, walking as the enslaved did. Nutuyikruk would carry and hold any and all items she was given with no harsh tongue. No fight. But there was something like the harsh ridge of the mountains in the child's eyes. She refused to break a fourth time.

one post cameo <3
veksar would not be going. not at first.
he was thrown by the announcement as much as blackfell. spring certainly had yet to show its face given the harshness of the season. what could possibly be the reason for such an early leave? once he was able to put his shock aside, however, veksar began to think.
he and blackfell had made a pact. this was an opportunity.
he'd offered sun eater and his associates a vague and jilted explanation that he would be scouting a nearby 'herd' that lingered in the valley. he tried not to look at the young girl. i'll return in a week, he'd said, turning his gaze knowingly to his brother that stood among the throng.
the crownores would rise again.
he gave a longing, knowing glance to suliya as he passed her by and set off for the plains.

cameo :D
To run with the caribou. Other Shore had waited for so little but so much time to run again. And yet, it was ironic that today would not be the day.
Star Eater had told her about the march, the long, harsh journey, and she had accepted it herself. But the thought of new scenery, the passion that drove her to unknown lands, ignited a strange thrill within her.
She would eventually run again, faster than ever, but her muscles were still heavier than she remembered them to be before she had found herself in Saatsine lands. But many a time she had gazed at the herd, had watched the Lanzadoii bring death upon the caribou, had dreamed of running with them. She would make herself useful, and be proud of it. She would make them proud of her for it.
But, at the moment, if she were to make it to Herbalist's Cache without sore muscles, she would be immensely grateful.
Sun Eater gave his declaration, recited the laws of the Lanzadoii, but the words came into one of Other Shore's ears and out the other. Her eyes remained fixated on that - that... slave, in Sun Eater's words. And tried, she did, to believe the chieftan, to believe that slave to be mere doll of flesh and bones, no longer deserving of sympathy. But she found it to be impossible as she realized that this girl was the same age as her, if not a moon or two younger. Sun Eater tossed her youth aside and kept her under that firm, cruel grip of his.
Could he do the same to anyone? To Other Shore herself?
Sun Eater finished his words, and at last Other Shore could embrace the relief that avoided her for so long. She averted her gaze from the girl as the march began. Exhasution settled in quick, but it failed to whittle away the thrill. Some people stayed; some disappeared into the wind; some left after having apparently spotted a lingering herd in the valley. Time passed; winds raced; grounds shifted. Qeya River soon slipped behind them, tucking away into distant lands, but even then they kept walking.
The march continued.

So, this is the way of the Landazoii.
They rove from land to land, river to river, following in the wake of their beloved caribou. Always on the run; a weak man's way of life.
Glacial eyes rest briefly on the young girl. She is tired, obedient - though Nagruk sees the spark in her eyes. Sees the beginnings of a fire untamed.
The woman walks with Saatsine for a way until her paws turn her back towards the ice mountain, indulging the urge to explore and earn more of Chieftain's praise.

Only a cameo unless he's needed further, just shoot me a tag <3
He did not want to leave the river, his river, but his muzzle would stay firmly shut. There were better things to think about.
The silent woman from his travels to the coast occupied his mind now, holding it captive and destroying anything else which laid in it's path. Saatsine was here but she was not, he had to remind himself. There was a wife waiting for him come the summer months, he should not get greedy.

Kekoa suffers with psychosis due to a consistent usage of hallucinogens'. Not everything he is described seeing, hearing, etc. is accurate to reality.

The march continued. The ever-walk.
Shadowpaw had fully acquiesced to Saatsine’s ways… but she acted like a reticent shadow. These days, she barely uttered a word as her new reality emerged. Her yellow, owlish eyes swam in Ghost Talker’s direction. Then, to the new captive.
It seemed another mouse had been caught in the shepherd’s trap.
