bein vague cause idk if @Niamh is gonna come with or not.
now tegan had actually spoken to @Quixote. he'd debated just skrtin off with towhee and lying about it, but he reconsidered on account that if niamh found out she'd probably be pissed, and he was trying to stay on her good side. what? what about @Towhee? who cares if she got mad-- towhee thought his idea was stupid, she could suck fuckin dick. her own dick, maybe, if only tegan knew about that.
quixote had of course agreed that it was a good idea. because, it was a fucking good idea, duh. he'd also made a snarky comment, apparently once towhee had said that moonspear was a nonissue or something like that, which, honestly, it probably was, but tegan just wanted to make buddies with them. he left that part out when he told towhee, really not wanting to hear her bitch the whole trip-- quixote agreeing with him was enough for him, so HAH, in her face.
now, i didn't mention this in my last thread with towhee because the thread hadn't actually been taken yet and i didn't know what to say about it yet-- but when tegan returned to the plateau from his scouting trip he'd let her know about how he'd scented @Whip near the mountains, and that he was also hoping that he was in the pack with gannet. of course, there was the off chance that he'd just fuckin miss the dude and they wouldn't ever find him but... well the chance was there.
tegan stopped where he stood, happy he'd brought them to the lake cause the dude was a thirsty bitch. he dropped his head and lapped up a good bit of water. when he raised, he looked to towhee, licking the loose water from his muzzle. "we're like halfway there, b," he said with a happy wave of his tail.

Towhee's eyes were growing weary in their sockets; she kept looking up (at X), to the right (at Tegan) and then to the left (at Niamh), repeat ad nauseum. It was her job to escort them safely and she took the task seriously. When Tegan motioned they take a quick break beside a small lake buried in the mountains, she gratefully stepped up to the water and shut her eyes as she drank, enjoying the momentary blindness and the cool fluid that trickled down her parched throat.
She missed her brother's comment entirely, though her gaze settled on him as soon as she reopened her eyes. "How much farther?" she wondered, unaware that he'd literally just said. Towhee made sure to keep him in sight as she anticipated a response, though she resumed her earlier scoping, this time studying their surroundings.

Towhee's watchfulness didn't go unnoticed by Niamh, who felt slightly on edge just because Towhee felt inclined to keep an eye out for any potential trouble. Of course, Niamh had an advantage in the fact that she could also hear, so she didn't need to be quite as anxious. Between the three of them, though, they'd surely have a good handle on anything that came their way- as long as it wasn't that damn cougar again. She, Caiaphas and the lone wolf had chased it off- but she did not want to tangle with such an animal ever again, if she could help it.
She smiled vaguely when Towhee responded to Tegan's statement with a question, assuming then that she hadn't seen Tegan explain the same thing. -Halfway- She signed, making sure she was in Towhee's line of vision. "What's Gannet like?" She asked, then, curious to see if Towhee's older brother was any different from Screech- or if he'd managed to turn out fine.

tegan almost made a snarky comment-- like dude i'd just said-- but then he was like oh yeah towhee is a deaf ass bitch, she had no idea i said something. so when niamh resigned what he said, he gave her a nod of recognition and then blinked at her question. his own attention turned to towhee. he knew gannet, like at one point-- but that was a while ago and tegan had never really given him the time of day. what was gannet like? tegan was eager to know-- now than the question was presented.

It was Niamh who signed an answer, which Towhee acknowledged with a bob of her head. She didn't expect the following question, which gave her pause. Her gaze slid sideways to Tegan, then back to Niamh, feeling a little grumpy about the question.
"Don't know," she replied with a roll of one white-streaked shoulder. She didn't elaborate, explain that Gannet had left before they'd ever really gotten a chance to know one another and then decided to stay gone. That was his choice, though the specific circumstances had always irked her.
She went back to scanning their surroundings for a moment before stepping nearer to Tegan again to ask, "What's this place called, do you know? We definitely didn't come this way during the move."

So....Neither of them knew him? Niamh had assumed when she'd been told that Gannet was Towhee's older brother than he'd simply been born earlier in that litter- but she was now led to believe that he was from a different litter altogether, perhaps. Either that, or he'd separated himself from the pack at a very young age, for Towhee to know nothing about him. She frowned slightly, not entirely sure what to think of this. Whatever the case was- would the Moonspear wolves still agree to talk with them, if their only link- aside from one friend- was a family member that Towhee didn't even really know?
She asked about where they were, so Niamh looked to Tegan. Surely he'd have some name for the place, as he was more of a scout than Niamh was. "It's pretty," She commented idly, looking at the reflection of the mountain range in the lake.

tegan couldn't help but scowl at towhee's comment-- she was moping. fuckin bitch. come on, act your age, towhee. even tegan, prince babyface, was acting more mature than you. jfc.
he exchanged a glance with niamh before towhee changed the subject altogether. and then he shrugged. "it's a lake," he said, catching towhee's eye as she probably was reading his lips, "i've been here before but no one i've met here knows the name-- it's definitely a dope spot, big fan." and that was roughly all the information tegan had. whatever. tegan did a quick glance around to see if that posh guy was around-- but nope, no sign of him. he was probably back off towards the flatlands. or wherever he said he'd comee from-- fuck he never did say, did he? fuckin loser.

He didn't know the name of this place, yet he and Niamh seemed to agree that it was a pretty (dope) spot. Towhee nodded her own agreement. She had never been much of one for sightseeing but she could see the appeal of changing scenery. She wondered at herself and at this fresh notion that had evidently sprung up inside her recently. Towhee of yore would've balked at leaving home nearly as much as she would've eschewed outsiders. Somewhere along the line, all of that had changed a bit, hadn't it?
She put those thoughts to rest even as she peered over at Niamh with a smile. -We'll have to come back here sometime, check it out some more. But I think we'd probably get a move on, yeah?- she added, turning to blink at Tegan.

The tension between Tegan and Towhee was more or less completely ignored by Niamh. She figured the best way to avoid feeding it was to simply pretend it didn't exist, and for now, that tactic seemed to be working. She'd at least distracted them from the topic of Gannet by changing it- and it'd been her duty to do that, seeing as she'd brought up his name and had started this whole grump-fest. But talking about scenery seemed to erase the tension a bit.
She nodded in agreement with Towhee. Niamh, once a wanderer with no plans to stop moving, had become fairly pack-bound, and had lost most of her interest in leaving the pack and exploring. She was content to guard- the exercise kept her in good shape and kept her from needing to wander. "We could give it a name while we're here," She said, a coy grin spreading across her features. Of course, it wasn't like the name would stick for all wolves that came to the place- as wolves couldn't exactly put up a flag, or make a location sign- but at least for the three of them, they could call it something ridiculous.

tegan put some thought into niamh’s comment. truthfully, he’d never really thought about naming the places he’d travelled to. his tail waved a little at the thought, and he suddenly got an idea!! ”what if we named it after you?” he suggested with his ears cupped forwards, ”towhee’s got a plateau named after her, and i’ve got a waterfall—“ he shot towhee a playfully angry look ”named after me... why don’t we name it after you?” tegan thought it was a pretty solid idea but... well... just in case niamh and towhee thought it was corny, he proposed a second idea.
”or we could go with like, alpine lake, or something, since it’s in the mountains.” big shrug. tegan didn’t care if they hated his idea.

Rather than agree with Towhee and hitting the road, Niamh and Tegan began toying with the idea of giving the place a name. Towhee's head snapped back and forth as she did her best to follow the conversation, her orange eyes settling on Tegan when he made some suggestions. She blinked.
"I what?" she demanded, squinting. "Not that I have a problem with naming it after Niamh," she continued after letting him finish, "but what's this about a plateau being named after me? My name isn't Heron, you whackass."

"Apfffft. After me?" She asked, one brow raised and half her lips pulling back into a wry smile. She looked out over the lake- it was very pretty, but she wasn't sure a body of water suited her. Unless, of course, ducks chose to live on it, but as far as she could see, there weren't any. Tegan suggested another name for the lake- something that would definitely suit it better than anything named after her, but Towhee intervened and caused Niamh to laugh.
"An' it's not called Towhee Lake Plateau," She added, brushing her shoulder up against Towhee's. Of course, it was beginning to become sort of two-on-one, but Niamh just figured Tegan could handle it.

"okay well duh," tegan said with a roll of his eyes, "but we're the redhawks, which, i'm pretty sure, is your name. and the plateau used to be named after your family-- so like, i'm not wrong." he was not wrong. you absolutely could not tell him he was wrong. don't try it. he's not wrong.
but whateeevvverrr ugh everyone was so lame always. tegan was just the coolest. "but fine, then you guys pick a name if you're so almighty at name picking-- ya fuckin lame asses," he returned with a scoff.

Niamh took her side, though Tegan was unflappable in his defense. Towhee playfully scoffed at it, rolling her eyes. "I'm hardly the only Redhawk," was her rebuttal, which was followed by a laugh as he threw in the towel and told them to name it whatever they wanted.
Towhee huffed a breath and moved closer to nip affectionately at Tegan's shoulder. "Alpine Lake is perfect. Now let's keep moving, dingus." She glided past him, glancing upward to track X before continuing in a trajectory that would hopefully lead them toward the familiar peak she could just barely make out in the distance.

Niamh chuckled lightly as Tegan defended himself and she moved forward to press her nose against his cheek to try and smoothe things over. Towhee seemed to want to continue, so she nodded. ”I like Alpine Lake. But next time we see some rad place,” She said, gesturing as they moved forward, ”I’d be cool with there being a Niamh Volcano, or Nievverland, or DeMonte Hot Springs or something like that.”
Not the best suggestions- but she didn’t exactly care- Tegan and Towhee would be much better at naming something than she.
