Since falling on the ice, something had been wrong with Haedwig. Physically she had healed just fine, but the state Katmai had found her in; glazed over, wide-eyed, silent except for unintelligibe whispers, had not changed. Europia was struggling to make her eat, and she only slept when exhaustion demanded it.
At the very least, she was clean. It was hard to get dirty when you didn't go anywhere.
Today was no different. Sat outside her den, eyes wide yet glazed over, staring past the scenery in front of her.
She was waiting, listening, but not for anything on the mount.

Kini was moving through the pack lands quietly. She could not sleep on this day
Nothing was wrong.
Her mind just refused to quiet and as such she wandered. Her voice whisper quiet as she hummed some gentle melody about stars.
She was near the den of Haedwig and the girl. Her father was taken care of the elder when he was granted leave to do so.
He was big on permission and rules. Her father. Something she should probably do a little better at.

Haedwig didn't like Kinusi, there was no doubt there, but her mind had no room for this in it's limited state.
She was hungry, her mouth felt dry.
Somewhere overhead, a raven cawed. Haedwig's eyes followed the sound up to the peaks of the mountain, and suddenly her chest felt tight.

Kinusi realized to late where she was. And for a moment she thought about heading back. Her father told her in no certain terms. That she had acted rashly, perhaps she had thought she was right. But it could have been handled much much differently.
And he had told her in plain language. That she was to leave Haedwig alone. There was something wrong with the woman that he could not diagnose. Unless she was very careful.
Too late now. She moved closer. But far enough away. Quieting her voice, which was frankly hard for her. She spoke soft.

Hello? You good?

There was something like surprise in her face when Kinusi spoke to her, as though she had only just realized the girl was there.
But she is speaking. She's speaking, and she sees Kinusi. That's something.
They haven't fed me,Her voice isn't mean or plain like usual, rather she sounds confused and upset.
They haven't fed me and now he'll kill me.Who they or he is, it's impossible to say. For all the wolves of Dawnspear know, Haedwig is speaking nonsense. Everything about her now is pitiful, an old woman who has lost the wisdom she lived so long to earn.
But she is speaking. She's speaking, and she sees Kinusi. That's something.

Though Kinusi wanted to question who hadn't fed her. And also rip into both Kindle and Katmai and her dad for not feeding her. Yet she knew too in part that surely they wouldn't do that, right? Especially her dad.
She looked around.
She decided against asking about the man that was going to kill her. She didn't mean her dad did she, because Kini would have some harsh things to say to the old bird if that were the case. Sickness or not.
She looked around.
Would you like me to find you some food?

At the offer she nods, polite, but fearful as a prisoner being offered scraps.
Her head lifts to look at one of the birds perched nearby, watching them with one beady eye. Haedwig fears that they have begun to follow her.
Before the ravens get to it, Ida. They're greedy. She calls Kinusi a name not her own with such ease that Haedwig could only believe it.

Kini was flabbergasted and it took all her willpower not to let it show on her face. Ida. First and foremost what kind of name was IDA certainly not as beautiful and unique as Kinusi. Also it sounded like some old woman that smelled close to death and yelled at pups to get off her lawn. or also perhaps like some old woman who was as wild as she was crazy and had never settled down. She liked that thought better.
Her own gaze going to where the she wolf looked.
Okay I'll get you some before the ravens get it.She knew there was a cache nearby and judging by scent alone. There was something only a few hours old in it. So she grasped the ermine therein and trotted back towards the woman. SLowing as she neared.

Can Kini see the ravens?
January 04, 2026, 10:57 PM
Yes! They're real
Haedwig is still watching the raven when Kinusi returns, and now a friend has joined it.
I don't like how they watch me.It made her worry that she was dead.
Was she dead?
Haedwig was fast to dismiss the idea. For all her recent mutterings, she found that idea completely ridiculous. Instead she focused her attention on the potential of a meal, lowering her head as though asking permission for what Kinusi has brought back.

Kini had never seen ravens come so close before. She too was unnerved by it, but did her best to ignore it. Though she couldn't quite blame the elder for constantly looking at them and then back. They were loud creatures and eerie.
She didn't want to necessarily agree, but she also knew that this situation could go real bad, real fast. So she was doing her best to be agreeable and kind to the she wolf.
They do have a strange way of watching. Makes you feel funny.

Eat up.

Still hesitant, Haedwig leans towards the meal. She only begins to eat after a moment when nothing nips at her.
Thank you, you're good to me. Good to an old woman. For the moment her stomach is settled, and the fatigue is settling in while she's calm. She spares the ravens a last glance before struggling to her feet and shuffling into the den.
I'll see you tomorrow, Ida.

If that didn't make her feel like a heel. Her breath stuttered and her heart squeezed painfully. She hadn't been good at first. She'd had her reasons, honest she did. But her dad had been right a bit overactive. She'd have to learn from it. Perhaps already had.
A soft unladylike snort at the nickname, but she nodded.

See ya then.
