Nova Peak a lesson to be learned

It was his 'second mind' that had taken hold, something that happened more and more infrequently as time went on. Whatever it was, it had awoken at the precise moment it was needed. With his mother shoved back, the mother cat took the opportunity to herd her kittens away. Swift immediately set about his business - as he did when this mind of his took control. He moved to inspect his mother's wounds even as she roared at him, and rightfully so. He paid her little heed though, entranced as always by his task, sniffing at the slashes in her cheek first, then her neck, and her shoulder.

Suddenly he spun, as if coming to a conclusion, and he went for the plants that had been dropped when the cat swiped at him. But what he found were not his carefully gathered greens, but the torn and trampled remains. His eyes fell on one in particular, the only of its kind he had found thus far. He quivered with anger and his nose twitched into a sneer.

Suddenly, he snapped. "FUCK!"

And there it was: Swift's first word.
