King Elk Forest What Arrows

He shouldn't have been surprised when another wolf showed up, but he'd become fairly invested in the cleaning of his pelt and snapped to attention with what would probably resemble surprise when he caught a female's scent. His silver eyes narrowed and his expression became that of concern as he looked across the river just in time to see a tall, lissome female striding through the grass toward him. 

There was a calm and quiet confidence about her, and the way she greeted him. Not too enthusiastic, but definitely not intimidated or fearful. It immediately made him more calm, and he dipped his head in a quiet greeting, his gaze trailing over her body and noticing what he believed to be the rounded sides of a pregnant female. He was surprised to find himself somewhat discouraged by the sight of a female wolf, particularly when he found her to be attractive. All he could think about were the words Peregrine had told him when he'd said that he'd once been single and fancy-free at Shrike's age, but the next year had begun his conquest to father as many children as possible...Or so it seemed to Shrike. 

He had to convince himself to speak, and had to tell himself that it was alright to speak to another wolf's mate while she was pregnant. "Uh, hello," He said after a short pause. "I'm Shrike." He had yet to return her smile, as he was still a bit taken aback by her striking appearance.
