Dark figures wavered on the horizon.
Mirages often lied; but he knew the stagger of a wolf even as it was soaked in waves of heat that rose from the desert's sands like writhing snakes. All creatures looked as though they dwaggered this way and that when they were distant- it was only when they came closer that they revealed the true nature of their health. Tumbleweed saw the figure waver, and crumple to the ground.
He looked up to see the vulture circling overhead. "Not so keen, friend," He murmured, more to himself than anything, before he left the warm shade of the Oasis behind, and trotted out across the desert, noting at that time that yet another appeared in the mirage. The second was a dark creature as well- moving rapidly toward the other and at first, he was not sure if she sought to devour the fallen creature or aid them. He didn't hasten his pace and would simply let them be if it ended up being the former.
The desert was cruel. It was the way of things.
She hovered, and fretted. Tumbleweed neared, and could see the dryness of the fallen wolf's nose and lips. He could practically feel the heat radiating from her dark pelt.
The vulture continued to circle.
"Pay him no mind," He said softly, gesturing toward the bird who had lowered in altitude. "We'll get you to water." He said, looking to the other wolf to see if she would cooperate.
