It was hot and humid. Gasping a little as her body adjusted, the little red wolf made a noise of awe as her eyes spied the lands. There was nothing quite like this back home at Swiftcurrent Creek, and she would have never guessed that there would have been a natural sauna just on the other side of Sunspire Mountains. Rushing in, she nearly burned herself on a particularly hot spot and yelped. It seemed she would need to take this at a slower and perhaps more cautious pace. As such, she began to stalk among the springs, feeling her way among the steaming stones and towards the evaporating pools of water. Maybe she would take a quick dip. Having recently traveled on Sheepeater Cliff, she felt rather goat-y. It would be good to wash off the scent of failure--she had not caught one goat--and to instead soak in the salts of tearful forgiveness. As she was tentatively dipping a paw into one such spring, she heard something cry above her. Turning upwards, she caught sight of what must have been a bird, and a rather large bird at that. It had been a while since she had seen an eagle of such proportions. "Please! Avert your eyes, Pervert Bird," she said as she touched the waters. "A beautiful girl is bathing and needs her privacy!" As if. |

I'm going to bring in Hailstorm along in this since you mentioned it
Ypres had been wandering all morning in search of any of her pack mates. She hadn't seen anyone around, perhaps they were scoping out new turf like she had been. She decided to take a break to relax. Spotting her eagle "son" Hailstorm perched high up looking down at something. He was just sitting there "observing" was Rocky with him? Ypres didn't smell the cougar, but knew he may have been around if hailstorm was. She trotted toward the tree he was perched in and woofed a greeting. She halted in her steps as she spotted another wolf from another pack. It didn't smell like a silvertipper, it was of a pack she had never met. Friend or foe?
The Alpha took strode with confidence as she trotted toward Leaf.
"Greetings miss. "
She was almost surprised to see another wolf here as her eyes focused on Hailstorm. She heard the bird squawk a few times muttering to himself. Ypres shook her head and gave him a warning glare.
" What are you doing Hailstorm? "
Ypres looked over to Leaf wondering if she should join her in that warm spring. She smiled to the other girl.
"Mind if I join in this lavish looking pool?"
She wagged her tail in friendly manner to let her know she wasn't interested in fighting, or anything like that because of possible pack differences.
He spotted Leaf coming from afar, a smile curved across his beak as he watched her. The wolf seemed to be well observant to spot him all the way at the tip top of a pine. He cooed gently down at her as she looked up at him. Perhaps she thought nothing of it at first. He watched how she dipped into the pool.
"Pretty girl, yum.. "
He tormented with a squawk. He hated wolves really, but just loved tormenting them. Ypres however was his "mama" so she was privileged to not suffer his torments. He squawked even louder as Leaf told him to turn his eyes away.
" Never shall I turn my eyes away from such a beauty like yourself! Wowzers! "
He sat there and opened up his wings and just flapped them excitedly as he bounced at the top of the pine tip and closed his wings once again as he spotted Ypres arriving. What was she doing here? He must have been busted doing his show upstairs as she came blundering in asking him what he was doing,
"Uh... Hiya mama.. I.. I... uh... he heh.."
He offered a nervous squawk then looked back down to Leaf as Ypres turned her attention on her.

Eh sorry...! I only meant to refer to a bird in general, but I'm happy you brought him in (he's funny!). Feel free to drop him if it's too much.
Squinting her eyes at the bird, the little red wolf jumped as he responded. He was far less--well, regal than she had imagined him to be. His voice did not seem fit for such a handsome, albeit fierce-looking face. Opening her mouth in order to hurl insults at her voyeur, she was interrupted by another wolf. Only taking a glance at the wolf, she responded but returned her eyes on the bird. "Greetings, sir," she said without thought, only to identify the other wolf's scent as clearly not-sir. "I mean, ma'am!" It seemed the little red wolf was also capable of squawking. "Hailstorm?" she asked when a name had been revealed. The bird was far too fascinating for her to be caught in her own mistake in gender identification. "Is he your pet bird?" How incredible! To think, that this rather sir-like looking female wolf owned a bird of her own--an a fearsome eagle, no less! Unless, of course, their relationship was of a different nature, but that was equally as intriguing. Wagging her own tail in pleasure, she finally turned her gaze onto the wolf. The hot springs were momentarily forgotten. |
Ooc: ok. Lol ya I love the eagle too, sorry I thought you mentioning him since he is a bald eagle. :-p
Ypres was taken aback by being called "sir" she knew she bore masculine looks due to the stocky build of her formation. She was used to other mistaking her as a male until seen up close that is.. ypres offered another smile forgiving the mistake.
She looked up to Hailstorm who tried to hide the fact that he seemed infatuated by the she wolf. She shook her head and tisked at him, then looked back at Leaf.
" No. He is my son, or we look at one another as family. I saved him awhile ago while he was injured and took him in like my own."
Ypres explained. It was an odd relationship and a rarity to be seen or heard of in the wild, but opposite relationship do at times attract. She wagged her tail once more.
"My name is Ypres. Alpha of Wheeling Gull. Who might you be? I have never seen you around before."
She inquired with warm tone.

He squawked with mockery after Leaf called Ypres sir and then corrected herself. He watched from his perched destination with a beaming grin. Leaf had inquired about him being Ypres's pet bird. He laughed even harder.
"Are you serious lady!?!"
He squawked harder and flapped his wings once again. Ypres let Leaf know that he was her son. And he beamed down a bright smile, then swooped down swiftly to land upon Ypres's shoulders or nape area. Ypres hated that!
"Hailstorm get off!"
She barked loudly feeling embarrassed for Hailstorm's behavior. Hailstorm fluttered away to a nearby branch and watched the two with a frown.

As the other wolf tsked the bird, the little red wolf did think her maternal. Sending something of a "stink eye" to the bird, who seemed ruder and ruder by the minute--and reminded her of some stereotypical teenage skater--she returned her gaze to the wolf and resettled into a more "mature-looking" stance herself. She would not sink to bird's level of maturity! tempting as it was. However, when the bird decided to take a perch of mother's back, the little red wolf could not help but giggle. It was a comical sight, having an unruly bird for a son. "I'm just a little subordinate from Swiftcurrent Creek," she said, not eager to share her name quite yet. Though her name was not something entirely private, she still gave it only after the privilege had been earned. "I met a wolf from your pack once. His name was--" DarkMees Duck. No, surely this Alpha would not recognize her subordinate's superhero alias. "Actually, his name is slipping me." Feeling a little embarrassed, the little wolf once more turned the attention back on the bird. "Is he your only son?" she asked. Maybe this wolf had an entire army of predatory birds by her side! She was the veritable Bird Queen. As the recently christened Duck Queen (as given by Mees) herself, the little wolf had to defer. |
