fifteen steps

Since he was going to be making this reserve home, Smoke thought it would be a good idea to complete a small amount of exploring. Not the kind of exploring that crossed borders and got him maimed or killed, but the kind of exploring that showed your neighbours that whilst this land was yours and your packs, you were still willing to keep the peace and have friendly relations and show above all that you respect them and their land. It took him a fair while to travel to the mountains and when he arrived it was not easy territory to traverse, not for a wolf used to the feel of grass on his pads.

It had taken him the baest part of a day to reach the land of the Tuatha Dé pack and it was not nessersarily his intention. He was simply letting his paws take him for a brisk walk in the mature autumn air. Yet on approach to these lands he paused, sniffing the air cautiously. The scent was strong here, very strong, meaning he had reached a border of some kind. He smiled and wagged his tail, happy to be in the company of others.

He let out a small howl, it was an open, honest song from a wolf that was not here to cause trouble, nor steal or plunder. Just a simple visit to say hello respectfully spoken from the pack land borders and not a step further until the proper permission was given, if at all. Whilst he waited, Smoke preened his coat and made sure he was presentable. After all he could end up face to face with a pack leader and a leader is a leader, regardless of family. They don't get where they are by being pushovers. He knew this as his father Alpha, back before the famine and as a result he had seen the best and worse of his father and what one day he thought he himself needed to become.

Sometimes, fate had a funny way changing your life and the silver hued male was not always sure this had been for the better, even if it was meant to be.

then a sheer drop.
