the faint reflection of an aurora borealis lit the evening sky. the quarry was far from the tundra so the colors were muted, lost somewhere along the way. light reflected off of the stones at the mouth of the quarry illuminated the entry.
there was a series of halls, each one one leading to the central cavern. it was wide, open; at its center sat an array of pools with the bluest water moriah had ever seen. she wandered aimlessly in the gaps between, bouncing from one thin pathway to the next.
she sang soft notes to fill the silence.
a body lay torn apart at moriah's feet. it was in the stage of putrefecation, its foul odor having attracted a swath of insects. it had obviously been torn apart soon after death; the skull was destroyed, one eye removed and deflated some feet from the corpse's resting place.
the death was more recent than the last but showed signs of advanced decomposition.
are you lonely?she asked. there was no one else hear and there hadn't been for some time. moriah wondered if he'd been scared.

He had found his way into this enchanting place. Neverwinter forest didn't really have a lot going on and he tended to wander beyond the borders fairly often. The entrance was beautiful, distant light from somewhere illuminating it. Mango hadn't really bothered to look up at the sky nor was he observant, and so the northern lights remained unseen.
A lovely voice tugged him into the place like some siren upon the land. Curious, he follows it. Who is this mystery singer? Eventually the music stops and the words are you lonely break the air. And then he's curious as to, what kind of way to start a conversation is that? Girl shouldn't you ask for their name first? Maybe a hello? He thinks to himself with a muted chuckle.
It is then that he finally reaches her and it. A girl, nothing particularly remarkable about her. And here she stood next to... What the hell? The stench of death filled the place and he wanted to vomit right here, and, who was this horrible and strange person who would talk to a corpse?
"Girl what the hell are you doing? Talking to that? That's so nasty why don't you just bury it?" He huffs while trying to keep the contents of his stomach down where they belonged. His eyes roamed elsewhere, refusing to look at the decomposing form.

the sound of a stranger's voice drew the harbinger's attention. she stared at him, admiring his orange tones, wondering what the coat might look like once death made a home behind it. a smile twitched at her maw, but fell as she turned back to the body.
the silence of a corpse made for good company. it was what moriah enjoyed most, the eternal hush. living wolves did not have the same respect for tranquility, as was proven by the orange boy.

you'll look like this one day, moriah sighed,
and so will i.

His nose wrinkled slightly at her comment and nonchalance. What kind of freak was she? And her response? Fucking weird. "Um... okay. You didn't even answer my question but damn okay." He paused, still avoiding looking in her direction lest his eyes graze the figure of the corpse-
"Don't you think that's kind of a weird fucking thing to say to someone?" He huffs with irritation. "Are you like a social outcast?" He piles on, bitchy as ever but not really caring. She deserved it... right? She was crazy in the head.

moriah braced herself for a potential attack. he was quick to anger, curses flying from his mouth in more bounty than his spittle.
she held her ground beside the body; while doubting that the orange man would approach it, she knew that there was no way to be sure.
i didn't realize that i owed a response.there was an anxious undertone to her voice, one complemented by her wary gaze.

i'm not...c-crazy, moriah huffed,
you're being rude.
