Burke howled for his grandson to ask for his location. The elder noticed that the pack was thinning down. He hoped that this didn't mean the end. He wanted his grandson to succeed. Perhaps the tactics they talked about in the beginning weren't enough.
Burke was worried. He mostly blamed himself as he couldn't do the things he could do before. He wasn't one to be all social and recruit other loners outside the pack lands. He didn't even wish to exit them as he knew that with this age it would turn into a disaster.
The elder trotted through the forest. As he did he realized his senses were slower to react. Mentally the wolf was fine but physically he knew his body was deteriorating. He hated it. Perhaps that was why there was such a scowl on his face.

Assuming Matteo's been given his starting rank by now. Hope it's okay to snag a spot in this thread? ;D
The call hadn't been for him. He knew that. Still, Matteo's curiosity got the better of him. Since Delight's recruitment and Mato's acceptance, he'd been keeping himself busy by learning the territory. He hadn't expected to come across anybody so far from the central densite. Still, upon spotting the old stubtail, Matteo assumed a politely submissive posture and trotted closer to greet him."You look troubled, sir!" He chirped, sounding friendly, inviting, but politely resigned. He didn't raise from that slightly stiff, slightly tucked in stance, even as he came to a stop to stand beside the old wolf, a reasonable few feet away. "Matteo Trovato. Ruinë." He'd introduce himself voluntarily, so the other knew his still faintly-foreign scent wasn't a sign of him being a trespassing rogue; just a newly welcomed recruit.
Totally Okay!! Welcome!! <3
Burke looked up when someone was approaching. He instantly knew that it wasn't his grandson as he didn't sport such a white coat. Burke raised his docked tail and looked at him with a grimace. Did he look troubled? He didn't think so! He was perfectly fine. He severely disliked thinking that he couldn't keep up with the younger wolves. Deep down he knew this but he was just being his stubborn self. "Why do you think I look troubled?," he instantly questioned and lifted his muzzle a bit. He squinted his eyes when the other introduced himself. He has quite the unusual coloring as well. It reminded him of that weak woman Kove used to be mated to. God, that had been a long time ago. But luckily the last name told him that it wasn't their spawn that was standing before him. They had a son, he remembered Xan, or something like that.
He quickly pushed those thoughts away. "Burke," he returned shortly. "And I did not request your presence," he also pointed out to this newbie. Still, Burke tried to tell himself that they needed new recruit and he shouldn't scare them off.
