Whilst the rest of the pack hunted in the neighbouring plains, Bazi was putting the finishing touches on her birthing den. It was a pleasantly cool day - cloudy, with bursts of April showers. The Peak's resident blimp waddled awkwardly to and from her hole in the ground, carrying tiny parcels of dried grass, heather, and strips of skin from older kills.
The caches were low and many of the dregs weren't worth eating - she scraped the hides clean and kicked the scraps of decaying meat into the Bitcurrent, watching the tiny stream struggle to push the large chunks away. It was certainly no Swiftcurrent Creek.

Spring was fast upon them, and summer nipping at her heels. Though he was not one to do well hunting, he was fair enough. Especially, when he was in a good mood, and he had a good reason for it. After all, Miss. Bazi, she needed all the food she could get. Especially as she got closer and closer to birthing time. Today tucked in his maw, was a brace of squirrels. It had taken him most of the morning, to catch the tricky little buggers, but he had won in the end. He figured she could save their tails for the babes too. He would need to find a couple raccoons before she gave birth as well. Their tails were always a fun play thing.
He approached and chuffed gently, standing still and silent, waiting to see if she would allow him near. Or if she would chase him away in irritation. Pregnant females they could be tricky lasses, especially when you weren't the man in the paternal role.

Kieran's gentle sound caught her attention. He stood a respectful distance away, waiting for a sign that it was OK to approach. Bazi would have preferred that no-one got within 50 feet until she had dropped her sprogs, but invited him over with a quick nod of her head. "Final preparation," she told him with a weak smile. "They're kicking constantly now." Not to mention the cramps.

Kieran stepped forward gingerly, a little wary. He was worried with how he would be received. Just because she was willing to allow him near her now, did not mean that in five minutes she wouldn't want to rip his face off. He remembered well how his mother had been sometimes, and those other he had encountered. Kieran smiled and stood near shifting. He lay the squirrels down and spoke softly, Chucker yer nade sum 'elp Miss. Bazi? Or wud yer loike ter take a break for a snack?
Then he waited quietly, wondering what he could do to even help, and if it was even his place. After all she had a mate, and he meant nothing by it. He just merely wanted to be helpful where he could.

She got "help" and "snack", and assumed the rest. " No thanks," she replied, nodding at the scraps at her feet. The small had put her off food. "Tell me what you've been up to instead. I could use a story from the Other Side of the weight scale.."

Kieran looked down, knowing that sometimes pregnant she wolves she weren't hungry. Grasping the squirrels he took them near the side, and dug a small cache for them. This way she could grab them whenever she was hungry. Kieran chuckled at her words, though quickly quelled it, fearful of enraging her. He shrugged and spoke softly, Not much ter tell Miss. Bazi. Mostly jist 'untin', an' patrollin'. Spendin' most av me time by meself, or wi' Kaskara. Ye doin' well despite being' uncomfortable Oi imagine?

Kaskara? Bazi's ears perked up, and for a moment she forgot about her inflated form. "Yes, as well as can be expected.." she replied, bobbing her head head. "And what have you and Kaskara been up to?" Despite doing her darnedest to sound innocent, the sentence escaped with emphasis upon her sister's name. Bazi tried to smooth it over with a smile, but it only served to incriminate her further.

Kieran laughed at her question and tilted his head. Wee bit nosy ain't we Miss. Bazi? He teased her gently, and then with a small smile on his face he shook his head. Not doin' much av anythin', she's jist de only wan oi can converse wi' for long periods av time, withoyt wantin' ter run away. She also can understan' me accent better than most.

Cleaning up the threadlog... :) Yikes!
"As good a reason as any to get hitched," she teased back with an exaggerated wink. The chances of Kieran ever abandoning Nova Peak were slim; the only wolves that could make heads of tails of what he was saying lived in Nova Peak.
Someone aimed a sharp jab at her insides, and Bazi winced, flattening her ears and refocusing her attention on the ground. "I think I'm in for a fight," she grumbled, shutting her eyes against the pain. "Finish what I started, would you?" She pushed a half-finished skin his his direction, teeth gritted and posture hunched. It was clear that she needed to be alone.

Kieran didn't say anything he just grasped the animal between his teeth. He leaned forward and gave the snowy white female a gently nudge and with one last look behind him, he turned and trotted away. She needed to be alone now, and he didn't want to bother her.
