A stealthy vole slipped from Valtyr's sight beneath the roots of a tree. "god dAMNI-" he began to rage, snuffing out the final syllable with a cleched jaw, "no, it's fine. I'm cool, it's fine," the normally chill firefoot told himself as he waltzed away, walking off his broken ego as if nothing happened. The famine was truly testing his patience and strength.

Sebastian heard the cursing, and he was quick to realize that is was Val. He rushed forward, though not without the usual dizziness. The large male was more lean than bulky like he was before. The leader had mostly shared his meals. Now when he moved to quickly he often felt dizzy.
Still that didn't stop him and once he arrived he had trouble focussing on Val. "Val?," he asked, sounding a bit worried. The alpha's eyes found him and he slowly stepped forward. "Are you alright?"

Valtyr wasn't cool. He was hot. Red hot. All thanks to that stinking vole! The summer sun beat down relentlessly through the bare trees, fueling the boy's agitation further. When Sebastian came onto the scene, silver visage painted with concern, the Sveijarn feigned serenity. "All good, my-man," he said through gritted teeth with visible agitation, trying to wipe the memory of the two-minute-old epic failure. "You know. Just the usual happening here," he added, wiping his back paws through the dirt to kick some sand onto the roots and (hopefully) into the laughing vole's stupid mouth.

Sebastian could soon see that nothing was wrong with Val, maybe a case of bruised ego. Yet, with this lasting hunger it was natural one would get agitated. Sebastian could see the expression on his face he had after a failed hunt. "The greens are returning, I hope the animals will soon too," he spoke.
"You might be able to try your luck at fisherman's fen. The fish are quick but could provide a good snack," he offered to the other young male. He liked fishing but it could be a tough skill to learn. "And drink lots of water to fight the hunger," he advised.

The silver leader offered encouraging words. After all, that was all he could do for his people. Their scouts, Valtyr included, had ranged far and wide to provide for the pack. Little reward came of their efforts, however. A small rabbit here... a meager vole there... day by day the pack grew more lean. Yet, the Sveijarn could appreciate the good position the pack was in despite nature's adversity. They had no pups and no elderly. Every member was a strong and willing contributor. Plus, the terrain of the Fen meant easy access to water. Valtyr was not a skilled fisherman by any measure. A life in the hills meant he had never mastered the skill, and thus didn't attempt a catch in front of anyone (his ego had suffered enough!). So, when Sebastian mentioned Fisherman's Fen Valtyr's weight shifted encomfortably... though he tried to play it off as casually as possible. "Ohh Yeaahhh," he said as if he had forgotten about fish as a mean of food altogether (when clearly, he had not). "Fish. Fish are delicious," he commented, almost like a mantra to work himself up to going... perhaps he could persude Sebastian to go with him and show the finer details of the sport. He would have to do it subtly, though. The Fen's Kind just couldn't know how terrible of a fisher Valtyr truly was. "Okay. I'll go. Perhaps you'd like to come with me? Two bros catching lunch," he said with a grin to try and make the idea sound appealing and mask his alterior motive.

Sebastian was oblivious to Val's non existent knowledge about fishing. Sebastian was quite the fisherman. He was very open about that fact. He loved water hence why he settled here. There was enough water around. Which was partly also the reason most of their wolves survived. The wolves in the mountain were less fortunate. Or maybe, maybe he was wrong because mountain goats and other types of animals like that didn't need much greenery right?
Sebastian instantly grinned. "Hell yeah!," he agreed. Because he could use a bro to bro moment and some food. "Have you fished before?," he asked her curiously. The young alpha always had fun while fishing but that was not for everyone the case. Pearl was a good fisher too, so maybe they could make it a thing in their pack. At least the fish were less effected by the bugs. Sebastian started walking to Fisherman's Fen, the clear fen that made it easy to spot them but it was trickier than to catch them in a pond like that instead of a river where they would swim past.

The Sveijarn was pleased at Sebastian's enthusiastic response, until the basic question of 'can u eve fish, bro?' arose. "Uhhh, yeah," Valtyr responded, though his tone was not wholly convincing. Could he fish? Sure. Could he fish well? Thaatttt was questionable. However, he kew himself to be a quick study and hoped by mimicing Sebastian he wouldn't look completely inept. Fishing was a benchmark of the Fen pack, and it was important to know in either case - broken ego or not.
Valtyr dropped in line besides the large alpha. Though he was just as tall, if not taller, Valtyr did not posses half the mass of his comrade. Though the firefoot had always hoped for such a hunky bod, it seemed genetics weren't so favorable in that category. Now, at almost two years of age, Valtyr was pretty much going to look like a string bean the rest of his life.
Eventually they reached the Fen's calm shore and Valtyr extended one foot forward, "Ladies first" he jested. Though, he really just wanted to watch Sebastian go first.

I think with the famine Seb kind of looks like Val currently xD String-bean bro's yo!
Sebastian looked at the male skeptically when he said that he could fish. He was curious to see that. Sebastian had basically grown up with fishing. It did him well that he could practice such acts again. After all BAF had quite a lot of water with those fresh water fish. They were tasty but his favorite was still salmon though. Yet it came inland through the rivers and did not magically appear in their fens.
Sebastian was pretty sunken in compared to how buff and brutish he was before. Now he was far leaner, maybe not as lean as Val was, but he was getting closer to that if he would not eat soon. Sebastian tried to nip Val's butt in the same playful manner as he had spoken. The male entered with his tail high. His eyes scanning over the clear water. The young alpha stepped forward curiously, trying to see if there were still fish left. Once he was at a right deepness, where the water came to his upper legs, he stood still.
He looked curiously at Val, watching him and trying to see what he was going to do. It was maybe a bit mean from him, but technically he needed to wait till the fish were adjusted to him standing in this water. Hopefully they would soon swim around his paws.

String bean brahs!
Valtyr let loose a cackle when Sebastian nipped at his flank, scooting into the water after the silver leader with his tail tucked beneath his bum as if to protect his derriere from any further onslaught. However, the alpha got right down to business. Valtyr observed the man slowly wade into the water's depths and pause. The firefoot mimicked Sebastian, walking in until the water's surface touched his elbows. His sooty plume waved back and forth in the air as he waited expectantly, nose touching the water every now and again impatiently. Soon, a wisp of silver darted between his feet. A FISH! A small whine wheezed between Valtyr's teeth as he watched the prey swim around, but he waited for Sebastian to make the first attempt.

The male watched the other as he stood next to him. Sometimes it didn't take long for the fish to approach them, but catching those people was not fun. The male watched the silvery shape in the water by Val. Sebastian however kept standing still. His attention turned to the water and gathered his focus.
The large male swayed his tail a bit, waiting for more fish to appear. "So one tip, if you aim at one, aim next to it. The water plays tricks with your eyes. I think it is trying to defend its fish," he spoke to Val, trying to explain the weird phenomenon. The male then saw a fish and dove down. His reaction time was good, because the male appeared with a small fish in his mouth. Honestly it was not more than one bite, but it was something. He grinned with the small fish hanging from his mouth.
