There was no destination. Nothing but his paws guided his way, his fate. And the fact he had nowhere to go frightened him. There was no pack to guide his path, no one to run to. He was alone.
He couldn't help but think of all the good memories he had and there were very few. He thought of all the good wolves he had in his life. Asterr, Desna, Sorrel. Thought of Ryūjin, the only place where he felt truley safe.
It bought happiness to him at first, than followed by a great pang of sadness. He didn't know when he would see it all again, if he would see it all again. For all he knew, his home may not be there. The wolves he knew may not be there. Everything, everyone, could be dead. He was truly alone.
Leo was so wrapped up in sorrow that he didn't see the lake that blocked his path. Only when his paws touched water did he snap back into the world.
It didn't feel safe here, not in the slightest. The ghost did not know why, but it didn't. Turn back, the voices hissed, run away. His heart pumped out of his chest and he unknowingly picked up the pace.
Maybe it was the eerie silence that spooked him, or the fact he was closer to his birth place than he thought. Either way, he wanted to leave.

The drums beat with the rhythm of the beast, synchronizing locomotion with a powerful song that announced the presence of the dark being. Beauty was lost on the creature of the night: sculpted from tar and bone, the behemoth rose from the woods like an unwavering beacon of destruction. It was with chaotic movements that he progressed through the trees that coated the land like a blanket. His balletic manner could have been easily overlooked by the way he moved; it was as if he were a jungle cat, but a cat with a distracted mind. He chose one path, then wavered and flitted to another for merely a few paces, before steering back once again. Indecision, indecision. Details beat incessantly against his brain, clogging his thoughts, increasing his insanity.
His tongue was gone.
He had found it interesting, exciting, when the girl had torn it from his mouth, but now he was simply angry. At himself or the girl, he didn't know, he didn't care at the time. The only thing he could care about was what was left in the depths of his mouth; a black pile of flesh where his tongue once lay. He had not cared to rid himself of the blood that foamed in his mouth or dribbled down his lips, nor the blood that stained his white marked chest scarlet. The scent of the liquid was heavy on his body.
He hadn't eaten much, or done much of anything since then, and it showed. He was thinner, thinner than normal, at least, and his pelt was dirty and who knows what was clumped in the black tresses.
The man's lithe body slithered through dark trees like that of a snake, paws silent. He edged closer to the lake now, so the water was in view, but he found himself suddenly stopping. He had originally come here for a drink of water, but an unfamilar scent stuck to his nostrils like tar and Snake raised his head, ears alert. He planned on following it until he reached it's owner.
And reach it's owner he did.
The boy captured by his emerald gaze was coated in cream, and seemed to be moving relatively fast. A crooked grin curled upon his maw followed by a rumble of laughter low in his chest, although the sound was somehwhat distorted and shapeless, considering the lack of a certain appendage in his jaws. Snake stepped closer, closer, closer to the boy, his pace slower than the other's but fast enough to keep up.
Snake opened his jaws to speak, to taunt the boy, and utter words to scare him, play with his mind. However, the only sound that left his throat was a strangled gurgle of blood and saliva.

His fear was justified. Seemingly out of no where, the strong scent of blood stung his nose. Leo's eyes widened as he was faced with a crazed stranger.
It was as though this man came from a nightmare. Almost pitch black and what light fur was left was stained crimson red. Blood coated his sickly grin and wild green eyes screamed danger. And to top it off, the sound that came from his throat sounded otherworldly.
A wolf who came straight from hell.
Leo's breath began to rapidly quicken. His tail tucked between his legs. The boy took one step back, than another and another as the beast moved forwards. Fearful gray eyes never left his crazed green ones, for if they did Leo feared he would surely die.
He softly wimpered as the other wolf attempted to speak. The only thing that came out were devilish gurgles that nearly made him jump.
Leo's heart was pumping faster than ever before. This man gave him fear he had never felt before. Even when he was viciously attacked so long ago, the boy never felt this way. And maybe this time he wouldn't be able to escape.
"P-please", he stammered, "I-I don't want any trouble.
At this point, the voices were so loud it made his head ache. Leo couldn't pick up the cries, but all he heard was run. Run as fast as his legs could carry him.
But he didn't. Fear kept him from escaping. All he could do was prepare for the worse.

Snake felt helpless.
The boy was scared of him, and he didn't even have to speak, which gave the devilish man some satisfaction, but he couldn't do anything else. He couldn't terrify the boy with words, his biggest weapon.
The cream colored wolf before him locked eyes with Snake, fearfully taking steps backward. Despite his doubt, despite the thoughts in his head that told him he had no power any more, he let his wicked grin widen to reveal rows and rows of bloody teeth. The boy spoke, then, voice an anxious stutter, and Snake let out a sound like that of a giggle and another gurgle of liquid. "Trouble, huh?" he thought, wild eyes widening even more.
He could imagine tearing out the boy's eyes, letting him drown in his own blood, strangling him with his own entrails.
He could imagine it, but he couldn't bring himself to actually do it. Snake didn't feel like it. He didn't have the motivation.
Instead, Snake took a few more steps forwards and cocked his head, dripping blood and saliva onto the ground, and twitched his ears, the look in his eyes questioning. "What is your name, darling?" Snake thought, longing to be able to physically speak the words that sounded in his head.

Despite his plea, the wolf did not stop. Leo's steps backwards became smaller and smaller until he came to a complete stop. His body refused to take another step and he felt helpless.
Ears folded back when red liquid bubbled from the stranger yet again. From the depths of fear trickled curiosity. His mind raced with questions as to why the monster had yet to utter a word. Gray eyes gazed at the wicked grin and the blood that surounded it. Leo quickly came to the conclusion that his injury had possibly stripped his voice away. But there was no way of knowing for sure for now.
In an instant, the two were face to face. A few moments of silence passed, which gave the ghost time to collect himself. Leo took a deep, shaky breath and desperately thought of ways to buy himself time.
"You... c-can't speak," he stammered, almost bluntly. He couldn't help but take a quick look back at the bloody maw. "Why? W-where you attacked?" The words flowed quickly, as if that alone would save his life.
He assumed the wolf would nod yes or no, or just show him why he couldn't. The boy was so wrapped up in fear, he had yet to see the missing tongue.
