He followed her willingly, trusting to her sense of navigation and the familiarity she claimed with this place. In the close confines of the passageway, her scent surrounded him, intoxicating and sweet as it mingled with the acrid stench of standing salt water. He listened intently to her footsteps to gauge distance and hopefully not abruptly run into her if she stopped. For the moment, silence reigned as the two strangers eased their way along in the darkness.
