Cicero's reaction, as always, was cold and calculated. It often intrigued Damien, knowing how his mind worked. He'd seemed so independent and detatched from such a young age, and there was this darkness and mystery lingering around him that probably not even Damien nor Meldresi herself did. Cicero was unique. A piece of artwork. Damien stared at him for a moment, trying to see through his eyes without success.

The road back home was both quick and silent. Damien was pushing his body to the limit to make the least time back to his family, to make sure Grimnir had been smart enough this time to take his chance to flee rather than finish his filthy job with Potema. Damien's mind was racing. He cared little about what other members of the pack thought of him or his brother, but he needed his mother's approval and Burke's support. Without them, the leaders of the pack and Dark Brotherhood, Grimnir would remain a problem.

It was obvious they were approaching the pack. Marking scents grew stronger as the brothers trotted northbound. But as it was a good sign just as it became a problem. Both Cicero and Damien had been so long separated from their pack that their scents were nothing like it. For as far as scents went, the brothers would be strangers to new noses in the pack.
