"oh, i was just wondering," he answered hurriedly, not really wanting to explain, but the relief he felt was quite real. tail swaying behind him, he led the way to the aforementioned berry patch, breathing in the scent of the ripe fruit deeply. his mouth watered for it, and, as his eyes alit on a particularly  vibrant clutch of late blackberries, the boy trotted over to them and stuck his tongue out to taste.
