Her disbelief at the youth's speed and impeccable prediction of others' movement would've distracted her from the task at hand, which was removing Fire Wolf, dead or alive, from their pack. The woman was more loyal to a brat who had no regard for pack boundaries than to her alphas, and so her alphas would prove the price of disloyalty.

Ashka returned from herding QuickPaw away and was quick to get in on the action with a lunge toward the woman's flank. Saena swung left and aimed for Fire Wolf's shoulder instead, with jaws that snapped quickly and with every intent to grab and rip. It was now like a hunt to her, and she behaved accordingly, with no regard for the other wolf's safety. Reek moved at the same time, going for Fire Wolf's throat. At least one of the three wolves was bound to hit their mark; Saena hoped it would be her mate, but knew that Fire Wolf was an experienced fighter who would probably sacrifice her flank and haunch to save her throat.

Still, an angry, murderous alpha female could hope.
