Somnia recognized Elwood's scent a moment before she saw him. Before she could even begin to comprehend and process this external stimulus, things went terribly wrong. She froze, her belly still facing the sky as she felt the flash of teeth way too close. It took her a moment to finally comprehend. Elwood had attacked her! Any previous joy at returning home dissipated, replaced by undiluted fear. Fear of rejection, as well as for her life.

Somnia turned her head slightly, just enough to be able to look at the wolf she had considered to be part of her non-blood-related family.
