His stride was long, his gait smooth and tireless as he roamed, neither with haste nor with the absent drive of a sloth. He was purposeful and efficient, sliding across the ridges and down in the valleys as quick and quiet as shadow. So far, no pack had he found among the mountains, but as he approached a plateau bristling with stately pines, the presence of faint scents was not missed. He paused to inspect the paw-worn trail and the faded markers, and knew immediately that a pack had lived here not so long ago. So long as they were gone now, he remained content. Curiosity compelled him to move further into the trees, to see what else may be around.
