The female came into view, but no words left her mouth. He was confused by her lack of a greeting, and that confusion only grew as she lowered herself to the ground. His eyes widened as he watched her twist herself into the dirt, exposing one of the most vital spots for any living thing—her neck. The whine that slipped passed her lips had been the only sound she’d made, and therefore the only sound he could place as being her voice. He understood the display as being a clear act of submission, but he did not understand why she was performing such a humiliating routine. Even when he’d been promoted to the beta position in the bypass, no one had ever done what she had. It wasn’t like anything he’d ever seen with his own two eyes before, but his instincts allowed for him to comprehend the deep meaning behind it. There was a part of him that felt himself to be deserving of being viewed as superior, but a larger portion of his mind was unsettled by it all.

Without stopping to consider how she might perceive his actions, Alastor closed the distance between them and lowered his head down to bump her shoulder with his muzzle. It was a gentle tap, nothing more, and then he returned to his previous position while watching her with curious eyes. “You don’t have to degrade yourself like that,” the Greek stated, a frown settling on his face as he spoke. “Who made you think you had to lower yourself so far?” His brow furrowed, uncertainty and worry evident on every inch of his body. Even the way he held himself, leaning his weight to one side more than the other, showed how troubled he was by the place she’d put herself into. Despite not knowing the woman, he could not help but pity her.
