In his natal pack, Farstep had had an aversion to the borderlands. Not only was it a typical stage for conflict, but his natal pack wasn't in the business of bringing in other wolves, so the job was dry and often unfulfilling. He would've expected to feel the same in any other pack, but surprisingly, Farstep was spending more time on Taggarik's borders than he ever had on those of his birthplace. Perhaps it was because he felt a high standing among the wolves on the ridge, or perhaps it was because he was no longer a yearling who cared more about himself and his entertainment than the well-being of the entire pack. Perhaps his preferences had changed.
Whatever the case, the tawny male was once more following the well-worn trail of pawprints, at least until he came across a scent that was wholly unfamiliar. This happened often as wolves joined the pack, but this scent led boldly into the trees of their forest and was not accompanied by Capriccio or Taggarik. His brow furrowed, troubled, as he swung into the woods.
It didn't take very long to find the intruder, especially when she drew attention to herself with a howl that did not belong to a pack wolf. As soon as he located her and found no hint of Taggarik or Capriccio's scents, he grew completely rigid. His tail rose aggressively into a stiff line above his hips, his face contorted into an enraged snarl, and he lunged to close the distance between them with aggressively perked ears. His stance screamed, "danger," as she was a trespasser with no respect for their borders nor the law of the wild, and his threatening posture and charge promised that he would rip her hide to shreds if she didn't remove herself from their territory immediately.
