Just as she expected, Muriel was soon greeted by an imposing pack wolf. Everything about him screamed "back down," and so she did just that. Muriel had no intention of causing trouble, nor did she want to lose her head today. "Hi, um..." she mumbled, floundering for words. "I'm Muriel. I just"—the girl glanced around nervously—"I'm looking for a home." Did she need to say more than that? Should she say more than that? Things had been so much easier before.

"Could I make this my home?" she asked, her own eyes never meeting his. Doing so would have been a challenge, and Muriel did not want to challenge him. She wanted him to invite her in.
