Phew. It looked like the sinewy stranger had no intentions of attacking Ishi or even chasing him off. The boy really didn't like fleeing, but he was such a small and dainty thing that he knew full well some larger wolves would find it hard to resist. If they were looking for competition, he was hardly a blip on their radar.
Perhaps that was why the older male let him be — Ishi was no threat. And he was content with that, of course, leaving a few seconds before he continued to slink elegantly towards the great stones. Thinking about it, the stranger was so silent and still and entranced that he looked almost as if he was a part of the odd landscape.
