Haven almost snarled back at Burke's comment. How dare he say that, it's none of his concern! She thought, but didn't do anything about it. His next words were cruel as well, but she didn't let them get to her. Except the part about Sebastian not caring about her. She'd thought about that before, wondering if he did care anymore. He had left her, injured, to survive on her own. She did feel a bit bitter about that, but more than anything she just hoped they could be back together again.
Suddenly Burke charged forwards, growling and snapping. Her eyes widened and she sprang to her feet, turning around and bolting. She was lighter on her feet than him, so running atop the snow was easier for her. She was fast, but with her leg she was still equal to or slower than the large male. She pressed on, every step was like swords shooting up her foot. But it didn't bother her, all she was worried about was surviving. She could do it. But then she couldn't. She was slowing down, the pain was getting to her. She turned a sharp corner around a tree, hoping to surprise Burke and slow him down, but her foot caught on a tree root and she crumpled to the ground.
At this point she was on her own. If Burke wanted to kill her, it was very possible that he could. But not without a fight. She stood slowly to face him, baring her teeth showing him that she would fight. The girl had spunk, bravery, but she was terrified. Her eyes darted around as she looked for an escape route, something she could do. But she was alone. She stood strong, but pleaded for Burke to let her go. She didn't want to die.
