a repost. aw!
since joining the crew of ferahgo, erzsébet had come to a mutedly horrifying conclusion: there were three females, including herself, to the gaggle of roughneck and unwashed men. it was a grim ratio indeed, especially with spring closing in on the heels of its colder counterpart. erzsébet felt that, for the sake of her own bodily autonomy, she must remove herself from the ranks of the captain for that period of time when she was irresistible to the opposite sex. as it were, ferahgo had already granted this boon with a sort of carelessness which the countess did not like. however, he had agreed that both she and her handmaid go ashore when the time came.
the brute who had sought to kill the pale female had been forced to 'walk the plank,' so she heard, and had not returned. he had been the first to be thrown out, and erzsébet allowed herself a small and glittering smile at this, fancying for a moment that the captain had done it for her. but in truth, he had not -- ferahgo was a self-serving beast who did naught that had no benefit for him
for now, she picked about the edges of the shore for her glittering shells, prancing lightly aside to her growing collection under the lee of a sand-bank. there she would gaze upon her shattered reflection, moaning about the state of her complexion, which to her eye was fading quickly into age and ugliness. the blood of the girl had done much to improve it, but that had been some days ago. she must have more.
yet first, the countess, shell in tow, had to pick her way through the encampment, hoping fervently that no one halted her.
