claudia awoke with a fright! clinging to madeleine, she watched as her guardian sniffed the air, feeling the tension enter the crimson wolf's body. "qu'est-ce que c'est?" she asked in a whisper, but madeleine did not soon answer. presently, however, the woman rose in a graceful series of long-limbed gestures, and crept close to a patch of bracken. claudia watched with bated breath until madeleine returned, eyes filled with horror.
