Thatch's head turned quickly at the sharp chuff. Someone was following him and he hadn't even know it! He was losing his touch. Or maybe it was just this dumb marsh screwing with his senses. She, like him, seemed pretty keen on getting out of this dumb place. He was also incredibly bored, so he was more than glad to have her company. He stopped and waited for her to catch up with him before replying. If I knew a shortcut out, you would still be alone. His comment may have sounded rude, but frankly that was just his attitude.

The female didn't seem very friendly, so he was ready to fight to kill if she made any false moves. He may have seemed like he was off guard, but he was always ready.
