Charon’s words solidified in the youth’s mind. He was going to go and check them out, but he didn’t really want them there either. To be honest, Mason wanted them gone entirely, but given what Zaria had said as long as they kept to their side of the bargain then he could see no other way. Silvertip wasn’t in much a position to march to war at the moment.
 
Mason nodded vigorously when Charon asked to be kept apprised. He could do that: it was a Scout’s mission. No matter how badly their two meetings had gone for Mason, he would still come and tell Charon if anything got worse. Other than that, the Beta doubted he would be near Moonspear again; Charon was not the wolf that FitzDutiful had painted to him.


“I’ll let you know anything I find out.” He felt suddenly that his information gleaning had been lacking. Clearly he was failing to think like a scout, and therefore he needed to rectify this. “I’m gonna go head that way,” Mason whisked his head to his left, indicating south of Moonspear. He needed to scout out potential escape territories. And he needed to get away from here, before he mangled Charon’s opinion of him again.

Having learnt some sort of lesson, he waited for permission to move.
